Happy New Year to all of our Small Towns & City Lights readers!
In honor of the start of a brand new year, and the yearly process of making (and breaking) new year resolutions, we thought we’d share some of the promises we are making to better ourselves in the new year. We know… Who keeps resolutions? We admit, that’s never been our strong suite either, but hey, you never know and it’s always worth a try. Also, we’ve decided to not do the typical “I’m going to work out more” (albeit we should definitely do that too) resolution. We have vowed to make resolutions that are different and force us to try harder and be better every day. So here are some of those promises:
Seems easy. We pride ourselves on being kind to others. But sometimes simple acts of kindness can lost in the business of day to day activities. So we want to take the time to go out of our way to be kind to others. You never know what someone else is going through and what one simple act can do to make their day. Refer to our previous post for some ideas.
Stay In Touch
So many times we say we’ll keep in touch with friends and family, but again, life can get in the way. You’re on your iPhone all day anyway… Send that friend who moved away a “I’m just thinking about you” text. Remind them that your friendship is still in your heart and take the time to ask others how they are doing. And pick up the phone every once in a while – it’s nice to hear a friend or family member’s voice on the other end of the line sometimes.
Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
This might seem typical, but it’s a good one to always strive to achieve. Live and let go. Forgive the ones who’ve hurt you, love the ones who don’t. Don’t stress over the small things not worth the heart ache. As we get older, we learn this more and more… And, it’s good for our mind, body and health!
We all deserve to treat ourselves throughout the year. We work hard, we deserve to do something nice for ourselves. Life is short. Buy that pair of Gucci pumps you’ve been eyeing at Nordstroms. Get those eyelash extensions you’ve dreaming of. Or, in our case, save for that dreamy trip you’ve always wanted to do. At the end of our lives, we’ll remember the memories we made, not the hours spent in the office.
We wish you all happiness, joy, success, love, laughter and prosperity in the new year. Believe in yourself and in your dreams. Keep your mind, body and spirit healthy and happy. Let’s make 2013 the year we’ve all been waiting for!
