It’s official! Today, July 22, 2013 at 4:24pm (London time), Kate Middleton gave birth to the long-awaited royal baby. And, to many fans’ surprise, the baby is a boy! The Prince of Cambridge made his entrance into this world weighing in at 8 pounds and 6 ounces.
Kate had a natural birth after 16 hours of labor. The announcement was released nearly 4 hours after the little boy was born. Prince William released a short and sweet statement regarding the birth of his son on behalf of he and Kate, proudly proclaiming “We could not be happier!”

Prince Charles, who is now a first time grandfather, also released a statement about the birth, “Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.” He continued his sentiment with, “Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.”

There is no word on the baby boy’s moniker yet, and it could take a while. Charles and Diana did not choose a name for Prince William until 7 days after his birth. The Royal’s have been known to wait some time before releasing the name. So, I guess we will be on pins and needles, anxiously awaiting the announcement. Until then, any guesses? The internet is a buzz with names like Alexander, Edward, Philip and George.
We will also get our first glimpse of the future King of England in a couple days when William, Kate and baby boy are released from the hospital.
