Disenchanted: The Princesses Fight Back

I recently had the opportunity to attend the off-broadway show, Disenchanted, at the Straz Center’s Jaeb Theater – a hilarious spoof on the Disney princesses we all know and love oh so much. But this wasn’t your typical Disney princess show. Described as a “musical comedy satire that gives fairytales the bird” – this show exposes the truth behind the “happily ever after” stories portrayed in the movies and lets us know how the princesses really feel.

Starring Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Belle, Mulan, and The Little Mermaid (to name a few), this show will have you throwing your head back with laughter, and leave with a whole new perspective on each princess. The songs for each princess are brilliantly written, one of my favorites being “All I Wanna Do Is Eat.”

The 90-minute show (no intermission) was one of the best shows I’ve seen in awhile! I went into the show having a general concept of what the show was about, but had no idea just how great it’d turn out to be. There’s a small cast for the show, some people playing multiple roles, but that’s just what was needed – everyone did a phenomenal job!

Starting out in Orlando in 2011, Disenchanted has already made several stops across the country including, NYC, California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Minnesota, and more – selling out shows at each stop.

Keep in mind that although this does reference the Disney princesses, it is NOT something that you want to bring kids to (the show is suitable for people ages 16+). But rather, I highly recommend this for a girls night out!

Disenchanted will be at the Straz Center’s Jaeb Theater until April 13, with tickets starting at $40. Check out a promo of the show below.

Have you seen Disenchanted yet? What did you think?

* Disclosure: I received two complimentary tickets to the show in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
