23 Down, 27 To Go

I can’t believe today’s the last day of March! As I’ve said numerous times before, time is really flying. With summer (and my milestone birthday) just around the corner, I’m starting to think about vacation.

One of the big things on my 30 before 30 list is visiting all 50 states before turning 30. So far, I’ve been to 23 (plus Washington DC), leaving me with 27 to go, and just over 5 years to complete it. It doesn’t sound like an incredibly difficult task, but considering it’s taken me 24 years to get to the 23, I need to make some serious moves.

I’d also like to point out that when I say “visited” it means an overnight happened in the state. Not just an airport stopover or quick passing through. Which makes the challenge even more difficult!

States + Cities I’ve Visited
Alabama // Birmingham
California // Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Napa Valley
Connecticut // Middletown
Florida // Tampa, Miami, Orlando (only listing big cities here because I live in FL)
Georgia // Atlanta, Senoia, Savannah
Hawaii // Honolulu, Maui
Illinois // Chicago
Louisiana // New Orleans
Maine // Freeport
Massachusetts // Boston, Franklin
Missouri // St. Louis
Nevada // Las Vegas
New Jersey // Wildwood
New York // Manhattan + Brooklyn (NYC), Long Island, New Rochelle, White Plains
North Carolina // Cary
Pennsylvania // Philadelphia
Rhode Island // Cranston, Providence
South Carolina // Columbia
Tennessee // Nashville
Texas // Dallas, Austin
Utah // Salt Lake City, Park City
Virginia // Williamsburg, Goode
Washington // Seattle

States To Visit
New Hampshire
New Mexico
North Dakota
South Dakota
West Virginia

As you can see, the majority of the states I have left are farther out from home and will likely require a few road trips to knock them off my list. Ideally, I’d like to get at least 2 more crossed off in 2015 to reach the halfway point. Looks like I have some planning to do!

How many states have you been to? Which ones are at the top of your list?

I really want to visit the Carolinas. I saw this beautiful garden online and now I'm hoping to plan a trip there in the near future!

I have this exact same goal! I got lucky that in college my family went to Alaska!

Last year I did a big road trip through Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Utah! It was AMAZING and i highly recommend it :) We went mostly of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta!

I've visited every state besides: Alaska, Hawaii, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. Guess I need to get to the mid-west! ;)

This is amazing! Love that you set such a goal. I personally set a goal of visiting Europe before my 30th birthday and am finally making the trip in May! I'm sure the next five years will have loads of adventures for you. xx

It's very beautiful! Where's the garden you saw? The Biltmore Estate in Asheville is supposed to have a pretty stellar setup at Christmas. I'd love to get back for it!

Wow, that's incredible! You're almost there!

  7. April 1, 2015 / 1:07 AM

That Balloon Fiesta's on my list! Maybe I'll plan a trip out to NM and do a similar trip! Did you cruise in Alaska? I've heard that's the way to do it!

I'm so excited for you!! I just took my first trip to Europe in December – that was the #1 thing on my list forever! Where are you planning to go?

I think you have been to more states than me! I am from the KY/OH/IN area and I have some suggestions if you want them. KY- visit the caves (Mammoth Cave is the most well known). OH- I am from the Cincinnati area and there is a TON to do on both the KY/OH sides of the rivers. There are stadiums/ food/ river boats/ concert venues on the river / amusement parks / etc. You could skip the caves in KY and just go this route. There is also the Wright-Patterson Airforce Base / museum in Dayton, OH which is really awesome if you are into that type of thing. IN- Indianapolis is your best bet!

OoOoh Christmas<3 The one I want to go to is the Elizabethan Gardens. It looks gorgeous!

I love seeing where everyone has traveled! My current count is 41/48 lower states. I move about every 2-3 years since I was born so it's been pretty easy to visit most of these since I feel like I've lived in half of them lol

  12. April 5, 2015 / 1:54 AM

That would be great, thank you! I'll definitely need to take you up on that once I have trips on the books!

  13. April 5, 2015 / 1:55 AM

Wow, that's awesome! Even better that you've been able to live in them to really experience all of the states!
