Last night, Sheba and I were taking our evening walk and a semi-traumatizing thing happened.
We were walking about an hour later than usual, since I got wrapped up watching Sunday’s episode of Mad Men. My bad! My bad, indeed.
As we rounded the corner, we passed an area with some weeds and trees, I heard a bit of rustling despite having my headphones in, and Sheba did too.
Little Miss Adventure (aka Sheba) started to jolt forward to check out the situation but my momma instinct made me quickly pull her back. I had a bad feeling. And I was right.
As we scurried away, I peeked through the weeds and I saw a big scaly tail. Then I saw the eyes staring me down. And then the teeth. A FREAKING ALLIGATOR LURKING BY THE WALKING PATH!
It wasn’t huge, but it also wasn’t small. I came to the conclusion that it was a teenage alligator. But still, an alligator that Sheba almost got into a scuffle with!!
Of course as soon as I got home (after I calmed myself down and processed what happened), I started googling alligators and what to do in these kind of situations. I had always heard to run zig-zag, but found other sites saying to run straight. I think my plan would be to just pick Sheba up and get to a high up point and/or scream and run like a maniac if one actually pursued us.
Have you ever come close to a gator? What would you do?
