Singing About Bananas

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Chiquita Bananas. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love jingles. Growing up (and even now), I sometimes made up a little song to remind myself of things. Because jingles that help remind you of important things are the best. For example, the Chiquita Jingle that reminds you to NOT put bananas in the fridge (which I’m been guilty of doing once, oops).

The Chiquita Jingle debuted in 1944 to help teach Americans how to ripen and use bananas, which were considered an “exotic tropical fruit” at the time. Crazy! I can’t imagine a time that buying bananas weren’t the norm. The jingle became such a hit during that time, that at it’s peak it was played 376 times a day on radio stations across the country! I was talking to my Grandma about the jingle a couple weeks ago and she remembers when it first came out, which is pretty neat!

Now fast forward 71 years to the present day. Chiquita is reintroducing their famous jingle and is looking for their next sing-off star in the Chiquita Jingle Contest, for a chance to win up to $5,000! The contest runs through May 27 and there are 3 ways to enter:

My youngest sister is all about the Hollywood glam life and was very excited to make a video for the contest! She’s a banana-eating machine and jumped at the chance to sing about them (she also liked the fact that she could possibly be deemed the next sing-off star). Check out our submission!

If you’re a little rusty on the lyrics, or are just wanting to sing a catchy tune about bananas, sing along below:

“I’m Chiquita banana and I’ve come to say – Bananas have to ripen in a certain way – When they are fleck’d with brown and have a golden hue – Bananas taste the best and are best for you – You can put them in a salad – You can put them in a pie-aye – Any way you want to eat them – It’s impossible to beat them – But, bananas like the climate of the very, very tropical equator – So you should never put bananas in the refrigerator.”

You have just under 2 weeks left to submit your entry! Good luck!
