Nerd Block: June 2015 Review

It’s been awhile since I’ve subscribed to the Nerd Block subscription box. But when I heard that the themed was British Invasion, I couldn’t get to their website fast enough to sign up. If you didn’t know, I’m kind of obsessed with British things. So what kind of British geek/nerd items did I receive?

Doctor Who Titan Figure, 10th Doctor

Doctor Who has a HUGE following so I was expecting to see something from the show in this box. I’ve only seen the pilot episode and a couple clips from some more recent eps, but haven’t been able to get into it. I did find the more recent clips more intriguing than the very odd pilot, so maybe I’ll give it another try one of these days. In the meantime, I think I’ll swap or give this figure ($16) to a Who fan.

Monty’s Multiple Message Magnets

I haven’t seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail in its entirety, but these magnets ($5?) are pretty funny. I used to love the fridge word magnets when I was a kid, so maybe I’ll bust these out for some fridge fun.

A Beany Bendable Mr. Bean

To be honest, I’ve never understood the Mr. Bean hype. The bendable figures are always fun for kids though, so I think I’ll donate this Mr. Bean one ($10).

Mr. Bean’s Teddy Bear

Another Mr. Bean item! Mr. Bean himself helped to curate this box, so it makes sense that his presence would be featured. I’m not sure what the significance of his Teddy Bear ($8) is, but this one will be going in the donate pile as well.

Sherlock Bored Shirt

This was my favorite item in the box! I’m a big Sherlock fan, so I was very happy to find a Sherlock shirt ($10) included! The “bored” design is in reference to one of the episodes. You can watch the clip below!

Doctor Who Print

I have no idea what’s going on in this print ($10?), but it’s pretty creepy (and also cool). I imagine Dr. Who fans could put some context around this and would likely be excited about it. Are these villains Dr. Who faces? I couldn’t tell you.

Overall, this box was kind of a bust for me. The biggest thing missing (which I was definitely expecting to see)? HARRY POTTER!! I surely can’t be alone in thinking that!

Did you subscribe to this month’s Nerd Block? What things do you geek out over?

Fun stuff! The Sherlock shirt would be my fave too. I’ve been tempted by misc. theme boxes but the chance of getting a bunch of stuff I don’t need has kept me away

I think they’re fun to do every once in a while if there’s a theme you’re really into. But there’s always that risk of getting things you don’t like/need!

Ohh, I would have LOVED this box. I am a huge Doctor Who fan! The poster has three of the “villians” with the Dr’s hand and screwdriver at the bottom taking them on. It’s actually pretty cool. The figure you received is THE BEST Doctor too. You should give it another shot. Keep in mind it is cheesy, but amazing and watch at least 3 episodes before making a determination. I think Netflix still has them all streaming. Ohh and start with the “newer” Doctor Who.

Ah, I figured there was some villain aspect to that poster. They do look pretty creepy haha! I think I started with the older ones – maybe that’s the problem! I’ll have to give the newer ones when there’s some TV downtime this summer!
