Earlier this week I caught a screening of Disney’s newest film, The Good Dinosaur, one I was pretty excited to see, as the combination of Disney + Pixar can do no wrong!
The Good Dinosaur imagines what would happen if the asteroid completely missed Earth and dinosaurs and humans coexisted. Following an Apatosaurus named Arlo, the film focuses on an unlikely friendship and the power of confronting fears and learning what you’re capable of.
While the movie’s message was certainly clear, I couldn’t help but also notice strong similarities between The Good Dinosaur and other Disney works. I won’t get into it too much (because, spoilers), but I will say hands down, BRING TISSUES. I don’t think I’ve teared up so much in a movie in a long time – or maybe ever!
This wasn’t my favorite from the studio (it really seemed like The Lion King reimagined with dinos instead of jungle animals minus the singing), but nonetheless, it was pretty enjoyable. For both kids and adults, it’s a great reminder that you can do incredible things if you just step a little bit out of your comfort zone!
My youngest sister, Carmody, wanted to share her thoughts on The Good Dinosaur as well, so here’s some insight from a kid’s perspective: “The move was very wonderful, suspenseful, but a little emotional at any time. It kind of sneaks up on you! But I would totally recommend to see it! You won’t deny it! I guarantee it! Thanks for reading!”
So there you have it! If you’re looking for a good family movie to see this week, this one is adult- and kid-approved! Just remember, pack those extra tissues! The visuals are incredible and the amount of detail that Disney/Pixar puts into things is just amazing.
Are you planning to see The Good Dinosaur? If you were a dino, which kind would you be?
