Christmas is Coming!

It’s hard to believe, but Thanksgiving has come and gone, and it’s the last day of November! While I hate how fast the time is going, this time of year is my absolute favorite! With the decorations, music, all-around cheerfulness, and sweet treats, what more could anyone want?!

Over the weekend, I made some incredibly easy (and delicious) treats to celebrate the official start to the Christmas season and our successful Black Friday! Pillsbury™ Funfetti® (with M&M’s®) and homemade hot chocolate!

You can pick up all of the necessary ingredients at Walmart, all within a few aisles of each other:

  • Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Cake Mix
  • Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Vanilla Flavored Frosting
  • Great Value Milk (gallon)
  • M&M’s® White Peppermint
  • M&M’s® Hot Chocolate
  • M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate

First up, the cake! In addition to the cake mix, you’ll need eggs and oil, as indicated on the box. Instead of making a traditional cake or set of cupcakes, I opted to make mini-cakes, by taking cupcake wrappers and placing them in a cake pan.

As the “mini cakes” cooled, I pulled out the milk and Hot Chocolate M&M’s® to make some yummy hot chocolate to go with. Note that you can also use traditional milk chocolate as well (or whichever M&M’s® flavor happens to be your favorite)!

Simply pour half a cup of milk in a pot on the stove, put on medium heat, and slowly mix in 1/4 cup M&M’s®. Once it looks like the M&M’s® are melting, repeat, adding another 1/2 cup of milk and 1/4 cup M&M’s®. This amount is perfect for 2 people, so alter the ingredients accordingly, based on how many you’re making it for.

Keep an eye on the stovetop (and stir often), but as the chocolate melts, you can grab your frosting and some more M&M’s®, to decorate the mini cakes. I opted for a mix milk chocolate and white peppermint. SO delicious and a great combo for a post-dinner treat!

In the midst of the holiday season, don’t forget to give back to your community. Many hungry children and families are missing out on the essential nutrients supplied by milk, an item that’s not typically donated to food banks, even though it’s in high demand. For a small donation at The Great American Milk Drive will deliver a gallon of milk to a family in need in your local community. And, if you purchase 2 bags of M&M’s® at Walmart (9.4 oz bags or larger), up to a gallon of milk will be donated!

Also, if you love baking as much as I do, you’ll love this. Simply vote for your favorite photo per the instructions below, and you have a shot at winning one of 8 KitchenAid® mixers. Way cool!

I love all the special things that signal Christmas. I am Canadian and love how the American Thanksgiving does a better job kicking off the festivities then our October Thanksgiving.

    • November 30, 2015 / 11:10 PM

Me too, Heather! You’re more than welcome to join in on the American festivities :)

    • November 30, 2015 / 11:08 PM

They’re both so easy to make, you can easily pick the ingredients up on the way home form work to whip them up :)

I’m so excited for all things Christmas too! The pecan pie ones totally missed my radar! It’s always fun to see what new flavors they come out with! Hopefully the hot chocolate and white peppermint ones will stick around!
