A couple weeks ago I mentioned how big of a deal Black Friday is for me. So I was pretty excited when DriveShop offered to lend me a 2016 Kia Sorento for the week of Thanksgiving, to help tote my mom, best friend and I around town, as well as trekking over to my parents’ place with Sheba for Turkey Day festivities.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the car fully loaded with a whole slew of amazing features, and Sheba was more than willing to be a participant in the test drives (one of which being a trip over to Starbucks for her favorite, “puppyccino”)!
The first thing that caught my attention when getting into the Kia Sorento (aside from the sleep interior look), was the console. To me, that’s one of the most important parts of a car. Everything has to be easily accessible and not with a thousand extra buttons and gadgets. Here, everything was super easy to find.
The dashboard was touchscreen and not only included standard radio channels, but also SiriusXM, which I was pretty stoked about, because HELLO 24/7 Christmas station! I couldn’t resist switching to the 80s, 90s, and Pop2K stations either. ALL of the best tunes. Siriusly. See what I did there? :)
Safety was a huge component of this vehicle as well, which is really the biggest selling point of any car to me (and especially my mom)! The side-view mirros were equipped with technology to indicate when a car’s in your blindspot AND the car beeps at you if you put your turn signal on and there’s a car in your blindspot of the lane you’re trying to move into.
But my absolute favorite feature of all was the one that pops up when the car’s in reverse. Not only do you get a backup camera (more safety beeps if someone/something’s behind you or about to be behind you when you’re backing up), but you can also see a visual of the placement of the car in the parking spot AND the cars next to and in front of you. The best thing ever!
For my little sisters who came along on a few rides, the best part (aside from all of the fun radio stations), was the roomy backseat equipped with reading lights above their seats for when it was dark out, and 3 outlets, including a USB port, standard car charger port, and an actual wall outlet!
The biggest test of all though, was how well the Sorento would hold up during our 15+ hour adventure of Black Friday shopping! I was a bit concerned at first since there was no visible shield for the trunk to cover our bags. But then I discovered a secret compartment that lifts up and allows you to put items in. I was SO thrilled! Not only could we fit our purchases under the trunk, but we also did a great job filling the top as well!
If you can’t guess, the 2016 Kia Sorento definitely passed the test! Pre-, during, and post-Black Friday!
What’s the #1 thing you look for in a car?
