Cruising with the 2016 Kia Sorento

A couple weeks ago I mentioned how big of a deal Black Friday is for me. So I was pretty excited when DriveShop offered to lend me a 2016 Kia Sorento for the week of Thanksgiving, to help tote my mom, best friend and I around town, as well as trekking over to my parents’ place with Sheba for Turkey Day festivities.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the car fully loaded with a whole slew of amazing features, and Sheba was more than willing to be a participant in the test drives (one of which being a trip over to Starbucks for her favorite, “puppyccino”)!

The first thing that caught my attention when getting into the Kia Sorento (aside from the sleep interior look), was the console. To me, that’s one of the most important parts of a car. Everything has to be easily accessible and not with a thousand extra buttons and gadgets. Here, everything was super easy to find.

The dashboard was touchscreen and not only included standard radio channels, but also SiriusXM, which I was pretty stoked about, because HELLO 24/7 Christmas station! I couldn’t resist switching to the 80s, 90s, and Pop2K stations either. ALL of the best tunes. Siriusly. See what I did there? :)

Safety was a huge component of this vehicle as well, which is really the biggest selling point of any car to me (and especially my mom)! The side-view mirros were equipped with technology to indicate when a car’s in your blindspot AND the car beeps at you if you put your turn signal on and there’s a car in your blindspot of the lane you’re trying to move into.

But my absolute favorite feature of all was the one that pops up when the car’s in reverse. Not only do you get a backup camera (more safety beeps if someone/something’s behind you or about to be behind you when you’re backing up), but you can also see a visual of the placement of the car in the parking spot AND the cars next to and in front of you. The best thing ever!

For my little sisters who came along on a few rides, the best part (aside from all of the fun radio stations), was the roomy backseat equipped with reading lights above their seats for when it was dark out, and 3 outlets, including a USB port, standard car charger port, and an actual wall outlet!

The biggest test of all though, was how well the Sorento would hold up during our 15+ hour adventure of Black Friday shopping! I was a bit concerned at first since there was no visible shield for the trunk to cover our bags. But then I discovered a secret compartment that lifts up and allows you to put items in. I was SO thrilled! Not only could we fit our purchases under the trunk, but we also did a great job filling the top as well!

If you can’t guess, the 2016 Kia Sorento definitely passed the test! Pre-, during, and post-Black Friday!

What’s the #1 thing you look for in a car?

Wow, looks like a nice car! Love the hidden storage space in the back!

    • December 19, 2015 / 10:50 PM

It is! The hidden storage was so awesome!

We have a Kia Sorento and we love it! Ours is a 2012, so not quite as updated. But still awesome! Tons of room (and plenty of legroom for Dave, who is 6’5″), the console IS amazing! As are the heated seats and the backup camera!

    • December 19, 2015 / 10:51 PM

That’s great! Not much of a need for heated seats in Florida, but there are a few days a year where it’s a nice feature to have! It’s crazy how quickly new features pop up on cars!

Such great vehicles! We test drove one of those bad boys but ended up with a Mazda! I LOVE the color of that interior

    • December 19, 2015 / 10:52 PM

Me too! I ended up getting a Mazda as well, but that was before I tested this car out. I think it would’ve made the decision even tougher!

What a COOL opportunity! We’re in the market to upgrade our Escape next year; I’ve been eyeing the Ford Edge, but I’ve heard really good things about these Kias, so maybe I’ll have to look into one!

    • December 19, 2015 / 10:53 PM

You should definitely look into it! The features on the Kia were so great, and it was a very nice ride!

I can’t believe that you got lent a CAR to test drive! I need to get a car that has that backup and parking camera.

    • December 19, 2015 / 10:55 PM

It was so great! I’ve always been kind of skeptical about having a backup camera, but now I don’t know how I lived without it! The parking feature was amazing as well. Every car should have that!

Ooh Im so jelly Ive been wanting to test drive this car. The interior looks great and most important the trunk looks like there is lots of space.

    • December 19, 2015 / 10:50 PM

It’s a great car! I loved the interior and yes, so much space in the trunk!
