Post-Christmas Blues

The few days after Christmas are so depressing. The next morning when you wake up the festive tunes are already off the radio and Santa’s long gone for another 360+ days. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely suffering from the post-Christmas blues. My decorations certainly aren’t going anywhere just yet though. It’s always a slow transition for me to take them down (closer to mid-January) since it’s such a happy space!

I spent Christmas at my parents’ place near the beach, where we did quite a bit of baking, present-opening, and of course, eating. My sister Ry was the first one up at 5 a.m. and a little while later, came in with our other sister, Carm, to give a full report on all of the presents in the living room that Santa left behind. And when the whole fam got downstairs, Sheba was happy to lay in the middle of the room for a quick photo and “LOOK AT ALL THIS STUFF, MOM!!” expression, and then proceeded to step over all of the presents to check (read: sniff) everything out before the tearing of the wrapping paper began.

It was a very happy Christmas, indeed! Sheba received a new toy and some treats and I received several things on my wish list like a new cookware set, Funko Pops (Ted and I are totally obsessed with these), some books, and the always-handy, gift cards.

This week, it’s back to work for me, but a short week due to New Year’s (last holiday off until May)! I’m not sure what the plan is just yet, but I’m just happy to be ringing in the New Year with Ted!

How was your Christmas? Do you have any exciting plans for NYE?

I can’t wait to see which Funko pops you got! And I also got Maybe in Another Life! I’ve heard such amazing things about it!

We should book club it if you haven’t already breezed through it :) And I got SO many pops between Christmas and treating myself lol. I need to figure out a good storage/display system for them!

That would be great! I haven’t read the book yet! Ha! I love keeping Pops on my bookshelves and my movie shelf (preferably in front of whatever book or movie they’re from!)

I know exactly how you feel with only having post Christmas blues. We get to extend our celebrations out for a few days because we’re celebrating with my husband’s family after New Years, but I’m going to miss Christmas so much. It came and went too quickly this year! I’m like you and probably won’t take my decorations down until mid January. It’s just such a process to take it all down!

So great that you were able to extend the holidays a bit! Totally with you on Christmas flying this year. I always wake up the next morning like what happened? It’s really over?! Plus, it’s never as fun to take the decorations down as it is to put them up!

I totally feel you on the post-Christmas blues–there’s something so gloomy about seeing the Christmas tree still up the day after the holidays. Your dog is adorable! Hope you have a lovely NYE!

Thanks, Paige! I wish it was acceptable to keep Christmas decorations up year round :)

Aw such a cute picture! And I also have a little of the holiday blues I had to go back to work today as well :( At least it’s a short week, though!

Thanks, Cara! Short weeks are the best! Esp when there’s a big celebration waiting at the end of them.

I have been sick since Christmas eve, so I seem to have missed the post-holiday blues… not sure it is worth it though, haha!

I am so in the post-Christmas depression. Isn’t it awful?! It goes by way too quick! Glad you enjoyed a nice holiday near the beach!

This may be crazy but the decor at my house comes down the day after Christmas. I guess I’m ready to get my house back in order. It sounds like you had a wonderful holiday and you spent lots of quality time!

The day after Christmas?! Whaaaat?! I hope they go up in like October then lol. I couldn’t imagine taking them down so quickly, but totally get wanting to have things back in order. I hope you had a great holiday too!

We’re catholic, so we keep our decorations up until after the Epiphany, around January 6th. Our dog also loves getting in the middle of the action and giving everything the sniff over! Did Sheba get anything from Santa?

    • January 4, 2016 / 10:51 PM

Mine will be up until then at the earliest! Sheba got a new toy (fuzzy frog with squeakers) that she’s completely obsessed with and a few treats and couldn’t be happier about it! What did your pup get?

      • January 5, 2016 / 9:07 AM

Millie got a stuffed Christmas tree and a giant rope…then the next day, on her birthday, she got a himalayan chew and a stuffed poo emoji, haha! That one is her absolute favorite and she carries it around everywhere–that’s my dog!

my decorations are long gone haha. but i hate the time between christmas and NYE, it’s like all weird and limbo-y. plus there’s all these leftovers that someone (me) has to eat ;)

    • January 4, 2016 / 10:49 PM

Long gone right after Christmas?! How do you do it?! I’m always happy to indulge in holiday leftovers. If only the holiday food pounds would shed at the same speed they pack on!

i am super weird and just want my house back to normal! i normally take it down christmas day. plus i have cats and one of them loves to climb the tree, so the sooner it’s gone, the better!

My mom always said it was bad luck to take down the decorations until after New Years Day so that’s what I do. But I suffer from a huge sadness, depression, blues right after Christmas too. But I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year and all the best!

Your mom sounds like a smart lady :) We need another exciting event to keep the momentum going! It always gets so dull once Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years have ended!
