I’m excited to announce that I’m continuing my partnership with Peanuts this year, and will be bringing you lots of fun Peanuts things throughout the year! Woohoo! Today’s the first big one for 2016, a celebration of the upcoming holiday of love with the Peanuts gang!
Dozens of Valentine’s Day comics were created for Peanuts over the years, many of which were centered around the fact that poor Charlie Brown didn’t receive cards, despite being eager to get them! Other times, it was around CB’s desire to give a valentine to the Little Red-Haired girl, but never quite managing the nerve to do it!
Some behind-the-scenes things you might not know are that the Little Red-Haired Girl was actually inspired by Charles Schulz’s real-life love interest, Donna Johnson Wold, whom he dated for a few years. However, when Schulz proposed to her, she turned him down, saying she was already engaged. Later down the line, Schulz was inspired to use his wife Jeannie Schulz’s nickname for him (Sweet Babboo) in the comic strip, as Sally’s pet name for her crush Linus!
Just like the beloved Christmas special we talked about in December, Peanuts also has two adorable Valentine’s Day specials! Both Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Valentine will be airing on February 12 from 8-9 p.m. EST. Mark your calendars!
