Boutique hotels are always my favorite, so I couldn’t wait for our stay at Hotel Altstadt Vienna during our one-day stop in Vienna. Located in the heart of Vienna, this hotel was just close enough to many of the big landmarks, but in the perfect spot to give you a taste of how locals live.
Hotel Altstadt Vienna is filled with quirky artwork throughout, making it the most unique hotel I’ve stayed at, for sure! And to top it off, the hotel snagged the #1 spot on TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards for all of Austria, which was announced just last week! So as you can imagine, we had a pretty nice stay!
When we first arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with some red velvet carpeted stairs, making us feel like VIPs. The reception office was on the second floor, so we were happy that we had only brought small, carry-on suitcases with us (we discovered the elevator post-check-in).
We received a helpful map with landmarks (including a “you are here” of the hotel) of the city, and our old-fashioned room key, and made our way up to our “Classic Room,” inspired by Italian architect, Matteo Thun! In the hallway and just outside our room, the quirky red statue, we deemed our travel/adventure mascot!
Our room was cozy, with an office/living room setup on one side, and the bed on the other. On the table were fresh apples for us, and a couple of glasses touting the tap water of Vienna (“is the tap water ok to drink?” is always one of the most important questions to find the answer to in a new city/country). We also had a nice welcome note and some incredibly tasty chocolate waiting for us!
Our room overlooked the cutest little church and some beautiful Viennese architecture! Our room’s bathroom was tucked away behind a mirror, which was neat because every time we went to access it, it felt like a secret passageway! The toiletries here were from Malin + Goetz, one of my favorites! I loved using the peppermint shampoo and rum body wash and immediately looked into ordering some for home!
When we returned from our day’s adventures, we opted to defrost by the fireplace in the lounge area and grab a glass of wine (for mom) and beer (for me). Our favorite piece of artwork was in this room too (abstract with dogs). It was just the perfect end to the day!
The next morning, we headed downstairs (what a cool stairway) for breakfast. There were several rooms to choose from to dine in after grabbing food at the buffet stations, but we loved the lounge area so much, we went back to our cozy blue chairs!
The breakfast buffet was SO good! With fresh fruit, cheese, meat, bread, jam, nuts, yogurt, and eggs made-to-order, it was truly food heaven. Plus, I was introduced to sunflower seed bread here and it’s my new favorite thing. I wish I could wake up to this kind of meal every day!
Huge thanks to Hotel Altstadt Vienna for welcoming us for the night!
