5 Movies I’m Excited for This Year + Fandango Giveaway

Some years are kind of a bust when it comes to movies. But this year? Totally not the case. There are SO many good ones coming out this year – even in just the first half of 2016! I mentioned the new Captain America movie in my post on Friday which hits theaters in May (seriously can’t wait), but here are a few others I’m looking forward to seeing!

5 Movies I'm Excited for This Year

Finding Dory (June 17)

I loved Dory back when Finding Nemo came out 12 years ago (can’t believe it’s been that long!), and now we’re finally getting the Dory-centric movie we’ve all been waiting for! Just like the first movie, it looks like there’s lots of adventure for Dory, as she remembers her family and goes to look for them!

Jason Bourne (July 29)

Normally movie sequels start to get old after awhile, but I’m super pumped for the fifth Jason Bourne movie coming out this summer because Matt Damon’s back! Remembering everything that was once lost, he’s back with a vengeance! So excited for his return in this one. It’s been ages!

Bridget Jones’ Baby (September 16)

We all know things got a bit weird with Renée Zellweger for a while there, but I cannot wait for her reprisal of Bridget Jones later this year with Colin Firth (and potential baby daddy Patrick Dempsey)! There’s no official trailer out yet, but there are some on-set photos that have been leaked that give us a little more insight. Oh, and this one’s written by Emma Thompson and Ed Sheeran will be playing a part, so you know it’s going to be good!

The Girl On The Train (October 7)

I read The Girl on The Train last year and was totally hooked. In terms of being on the edge of your set, it’s kind of like Gone Girl! There’s no official trailer out yet, but we do know Emily Blunt will be starring as the main character, Rachel. Basically the story focuses around Rachel’s reeling from the dissolution of her marriage with Tom, who left her for another woman. Drowning her sorrows in alcohol and blacking out, her life is in shambles, being unable to hold a job, or fully let go of Tom. Can’t wait to see this one played out on the big screen!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (November 18)

Obviously, this is the one I’m MOST excited for in all of 2016! A spinoff of sorts from Harry Potter, giving us a new story from the wizarding world. Eddie Redmayne stars in this one, and he’s done a fantastic (no pun intended) job with his roles the past few years. I think he’ll be perfect in this role!

Since there are so many great films hitting theaters this year, I’m teaming up with some bloggers to give away a $200 Fandango gift card so one lucky winner can enjoy these movies and more! Enter below for a chance to win, and tell me, what movie are you most excited for this year?

  • There really are so many amazing movies coming out this year, and you picked some of the ones that I’m most excited about too! I loved reading The Girl on The Train, and I can’t wait to see Emily Blunt in the role of Rachel!

    • Thanks, Ashley! I’m excited to see Emily Blunt as Rachel too. I think she’ll play the role perfectly!

  • Greta Hollar

Not going to lie, I’m excited about all the super hero movies this year! Suicide Squad, Batman, Captain America, etc. But I love Bridget Jones and am looking forward to the new one!

    Greta | http://www.gretahollar.com

    • I can’t believe how many superhero and other good movies are coming out this year! I hope Hollywood keeps the momentum up for the next few years too!

  • True story: I clicked this post because I don’t have cable and have NO idea what new movies are coming out! Thank you for keeping people who live under rocks (i.e. me) informed! I’m super excited about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!

    • No cable?! I don’t think I’m quite ready to part with it, haha. But I think most of the movies I read about or see trailers for in other movies. I try to avoid commercials for the most part!

  • Kari Guastella

I’m excited about the new Bourne as well. I love action films!

    • SO many good ones this year! I hope next year’s lineup is just as good!

  • These are such awesome ones! Even I want to watch each one if it! I think I should read Girl on the train now! And so excited for Fantastic Beasts! :D

    • You should definitely read it beforehand! There’s always so much more detail in the books, but I still think the movie’s going to be awesome!

  • Okay I’m totally excited about Girl on the Train except that Emily Blunt is wayyyy too gorgeous for that role. The main character from the book is supposed to be overweight and plain. I mean unless they really make her look awful, that’s going to get under my skin. I am super excited for Me Before You.

    • I really need to read Me Before You! Although based on the trailer I can kind of guess how it’s going to end :/ I think Emily Blunt is a perfect pick for the role based on some of the images they released. That’s the magic of Hollywood, haha!

  • Karin Rambo

I had no idea there was going to be another Bridget Jones! So excited! This may be weird, but ever since Colin Firth played Mr. Darcy he has been one of my Hollywood crushes. :)

    • Colin Firth is the BEST! I’m so excited for this one :)

  • Mandi

Bridget Jones Baby!!! WHAT! I’m SO EXCITED. hahaha and Finding Dory, yes!

    • Yeah! Will the father be Colin Firth or Patrick Dempsey?! I can’t decide who I want it to be!

  • Michelle Mink

I am very excited for Finding Dory as well! I am also looking forward to the movie called Me before you

    • I’ve had Me Before You on my bookshelf for awhile. I really want to read it before the movie comes out!

  • I’m excited about the Harry Potter spinoff too!

    • Yesss! Can’t wait for the other spinoffs they plan to release in the coming years too! The magic lives on :)

  • So many good movies coming out soon! Can’t wait!

    • Agreed! I don’t know how next year could possibly top all of this year’s releases!

  • OH MY GOSH! I am so crazy excited about Jason Bourne! I can’t wait to see it!

    • Same! I was starting to think we’d never see Matt Damon back in action as Bourne!

  • SO SO excited for Fantastic Beasts! I don’t know how I feel about Finding Dory, it could be cute but some movies should be left alone. I’ll definitely be seeing it though!

    • They’re going to make a few more HP spinoffs aside from Fantastic Beasts too in the coming years. I can’t wait! I’m interested to learn more about Dory’s back story too!

  • I hadn’t even heard of that last one, but a Harry Potter spinoff?! Count me in, please! :)

    • Really?! I’ve been so excited for it since they announced it a while back! They’re going to do a couple other spinoffs after this one. Yay!!

  • I am excited for Girl on the Train and Finding Dory :)

    xoxo, Jenny

    • Those seem to be the big ones everyone’s excited for! I can’t wait either!

  • I’m very excited for the Jason Bourne moooviiiieeee….woohooooo

    • Me too! It’s been so long since Matt Damon’s been around in them!

  • Can’t wait for Girl on the Train, and of COURSE Bridget Jones’ baby! ah!

  • I’m super excited for Finding Dory and Fantastic Beasts! And I didn’t read Girl on the Train but I’m curious about that one too.

    • I really enjoyed the book! It was a bit like Gone Girl… in a sense that there was a big twist! It’s a pretty good year for Disney films too :)

  • Oh my gosh I seriously can’t wait for Fantastic Beasts! I LOVE Eddie Redmayne!!

    • Same! He’s really kicking his movie roles into high gear lately! I think he’s going to play this role brilliantly!

  • Seriously, all of these are going to be AMAZING. Finding Dory! More Jason Bourne! More stuff from J.K. Rowling! :D I need to win that Fandango card so I can see all of them!

    • Seriously! I think my bank account’s going to take a serious hit from the movie theater this year :)

  • Denay DeGuzman

My husband and I are huge movie lovers! We’re always headed to the theater to see new releases and we love having a few evenings at home when we watch a few pre-recorded TV series or Netflix. Your list of anticipated movies are pretty much the same as mine! I guess great minds think alike! Lol

    • My boyfriend and I are the same! There’s so much good entertainment out there these days!

  • I’m so excited for all these movies – especially Fantastic Beasts! Harry Potter world and Eddie Redmayne in one movie, it really doesn’t get any better than that!

    xx, Caitlin

    • I totally agree! I think Eddie’s going to knock this role out of the park (but doesn’t he always)!

  • emi

Just entered! My husband wouldn’t know what to do with himself if we won this haha he LOVES the movies. Fun to see which are coming out soon!

    • My boyfriend and I love going too! This gift card would result in SO many movie dates!

  • Aliza Hale Biorn

I’m so excited about most of these movies! Fantastic Beasts will be wonderful!

    • Me too, Aliza! Fantastic Beasts is going to be so be awesome!

  • Janil

I had no idea that there was a new Bourne movie coming out! Matt Damon is freaking awesome and I will be all over the movie theatre when it comes out. I’m not sure if I can bare to see Patrick Dempsey on screen right now though, I’m still reeling from his death on Grey’s. :( Oh the feels.

    • They really kept the new Bourne on the DL! I gave up on Grey’s years ago, but I did catch his death scene right before Scandal started. I refuse to believe it’s real :(

  • I am right with you on those first two movies!! Who wouldn’t want to see the next installation of Nemo. Up, and Bourne – heck yes!!! So glad it is Matt Damon again. – Katy

    • I’m so glad Matt Damon’s back in action too! So many good movies this year!

  • Finding Dory! YAS

  • Rust

Mistake! Please remove my ‘facebook entries’ entry for today, 3/16. I clicked the wrong box! Thank you, and I am sorry about that.

  • This post was super informative because I don’t really get to see trailers for upcoming movies, so I am totally out of the loop with upcoming releases! The Girl on the Train, Jason Bourne, and Bridget Jones’s Baby are must sees for me.

    • I think all 3 are gonna be awesome! Can you catch many American movies over in China?

      • There number of foreign films that are shown in theaters is limited, but there are places to buy tons of new releases on DVD. Even though the DVD shops are prevalent, I’m not sure how legal they are!

  • Words can’t describe how excited I am to see The Girl on the Train! I was just as hooked on the book :) This movie does have a lot to live up to though!
