April 2016 Goals

New month = new goals! Although to be honest, I didn’t quite hit my goals the way I was hoping to in March. My schedule just got much crazier than I expected and things haven’t slowed down a bit! Let’s take a quick look back at what I hoped to accomplish in March.

  1. Try a new recipe. Total fail on this one. I did a lot more eating out and reusing old recipes in March.
  2. Take a webinar or e-course to strengthen my skills. Complete! I took Helene’s Triple Your Twitter e-course and it was so helpful!
  3. Hit 10k steps 6 days a week. This happened.. but only during one week. Not quite a fail, but also not a total win.
  4. Collaborate with another blogger. Unfortunately, with my crazy schedule, I didn’t even have time to think about emailing or brainstorming collaboration ideas. I’ll save this one for when my schedule clears up.
  5. Reach 500 fans on Facebook. Done! I was so excited to hit this milestone AND my goal from last month, reaching 1000+ followers on Bloglovin. Yay!

april goals

  1. Focus on quality content (3-4 posts per week). For the longest time I’ve been trying to post once a day, Monday-Friday, but lately, I’m trying to focus more on quality content, especially with my schedule constraints as of late. I also want to be able to have more time to do other behind-the-scenes blog things, so hopefully this will help with that!
  2. Clothing purge. I started on this awhile back, but still feel like there’s a lot of work to be done. I’m hoping to get rid of at least 10 clothing pieces (focusing on old things).
  3. Read one book. The year started off strong for reading, but it’s definitely been a solid month or more since I’ve picked up a book. This month, I want to get back on track!
  4. Get 8+ hours of sleep at least 3 nights a week. I’ve been going to bed WAY too late the past couple months and it’s ate ting to catch up with me. Time to make a change!
  5. Post on Instagram 2-3x/week. I’ve seen some great growth on my Instagram over the past few months and it’s a platform I really want to utilize more consistently!

What goals do you have for April?

  • Kylie Toliver

Hi there! I just came across your blog! I am a blogger in Florida as well! Would love to catch up with you! My site is http://www.counselorwithacape.com Look forward to hearing from you!

    • How exciting! Nice to meet you, Kylie! I see you’re in Ft. Myers – not terribly far from me! If you want to have a blogger meet-up one of these days let me know!

  • Leslie Nichole

I’d love to try a webinar. I just don’t have the time unless it’s on a weekend. I didn’t understand when I was younger when people would say “I just don’t have time” but now I do. Im loving the 10k steps, that’s a great idea. I finally broke down and got a fitbit, i think I’ll tag along that goal with you. Good luck with your goals!

    • I hear ya! Time is a precious commodity these days. So awesome that you joined the FitBit world, I’m obsessed with mine! Are you liking it so far?

  • These goals are awesome. I love the one about focusing on quality content because I did the exact same thing. I so wanted to create content five days a week, but I noticed that a lot of my blog didn’t offer any true value for my readers and I was creating content like Polyvore styles instead of the actual, lengthy and amazing content I wanted to write. So I took a step back, started posting three days a week, and now I am so proud of all the amazing content I post on my blog on a weekly basis.

    • Thanks, Amanda! That’s exactly how I feel about content as well. I’ve been able to focus on and promote blog posts rather than just churning them out. I feel like engagement has increased so much more since then!

  • Best wishes on your goals!! I’m also trying out some new recipes and I need to increase my step count ASAP! I’m trying to finish Me Before You also before the movie comes out soon!! =)

    • Thanks, Melanie! What step count are you currently at? I need to read that book before the movie comes out too!

  • Good goals! I would be interested in growing my Bloglovin presence but I literally do not use it at all, ever so I doubt that will ever happen! I’m also on the same page with the posting less content. Wedding planning has consumed my life and I barely have time for anything and I want to spend the little time I do have doing other things instead of sitting behind my computer.

    • Really all you have to do with Bloglovin is set up your feed. You don’t have to post updates or anything, it’s just really a blog reader which is nice! I don’t blame you for cutting back, things must be especially crazy throwing wedding planning into the mix!

  • Awesome goals you have set for yourself Rachel! Stay focused and you will be great! Thanks for sharing :)

    • Thanks, Joan! Appreciate the words of encouragement!

  • Great set of goals Rachel. One of my goals for April is to read two books. I really want to start reading more (I used to real ALL THE TIME), but since starting my business almost 5 years ago, I noticed I don’t read as much. I also want to step away from all electronics by 8pm. I find myself spending way to much time in the online world, and really need to step back and unwind in the evening.

    • That’s a great idea, Tiffany! I wish I could step away from all electronics by 8 p.m.! I might have to give it a try at least once a week. We always get so consumed by them we forget to accomplish all of the other non-tech things we set out to do!

  • Way to hit 500 fans on your Facebook page! That’s awesome! It sounds like you have some great goals for the upcoming month! I love your goal about getting more sleep! I know that I stay up way to late doing things, and some of those things are kind of useless like Facebooking, and I really should just turn everything off and go to bed. Good luck this month!

    • Thanks, Ashley! Those are the same problems I have preventing me from getting to sleep. It’s starting to catch up to me though, I need to take a step back and get some more rest! The last thing I want is to get burned out!

  • Christy

Last year, it was one of my resolutions to try 40 new recipes (almost one a week) and I did it but I totally burnt myself out and haven’t tried anything new since. Good luck on this months goals! You can totally do it!

    • Wow that sounds like such an intense goal! I don’t blame you for taking a much-needed break after that!

  • Samantha

These are great goals! I love Instagram, but I can never remember to actually take pictures and post them. And I’m the same with reading, too. I started off great, but it’s been a while since I opened my book.

    • Thanks, Samantha! That’s the exact problem I have with Instagram too! Hopefully this month we’ll both be able to get back on track!

  • Love the idea of monthly goals! I really need to pick up my Instagram game as well! Right now I’m averaging like one post a week haha I need to work on my photo skills though :/

    • That’s exactly how I’ve been too! Sometimes I forget to take pictures or am just so busy I forget to post. I’m trying to work on my photo skills too. I’m thinking (when I find some free time) I’d like to take some kind of photography class!

  • Girl I’m right there with you on the staying up to late thing! You’ve got some great goals for this month! :)

    • Thanks, Jenn! Part of me wishes I could set a timer for all my electronics to automatically shut down at a certain time to force me to go to bed :)

  • Great goals for this month! I would love to collaborate with you. That is one of my goals as well, which had yet to happen yet. If you’re interested let me know. :) I recently did a clothing purge, which was a good thing. I really want to read more but I just never find the time to actually read. My sleep schedule has been so off this week but I have tried to be as consistent as possible with it. Good luck with your goals this month!

    • Thanks, Mistle! I’d love to collaborate! Shoot me an email if you have something in mind :) I hear you on not finding time to read. That’s one of my big struggles too!

  • You’ve got some great goals! Congrats on all your growth!! That is so exciting!!

    • Thanks, Angela! I’m so proud of the growth I’ve had on my little corner of the internet!

  • You have done so well! Congrats! And if you want to collaborate on something when you have more time let me know…I am always game!

  • YEs! You go girl! I am so proud of you for hitting the 1K on bloglovin’! I need to work on that platform; I always forget about growing it, but I use it EVERY DAY! And Dustin and I are working on maintaining a stricter sleep schedule too! Good luck! You’re going to own this month!

    • Thank you, Chels! It can be tough to keep up with all the different platforms. You can definitely do it though!

  • Your goals are awesome, and you totally kicked March’s butt. Way to go!

  • Oh girl, when it comes to trying new recipes… YEah…. I know what I like, so why do I need to change it? LOL! My blog has actually totally expanded my horizons with recipe ideas because I truly need to think outside of the box. That being said, cooking not in front of the camera = broiling salmon. DONE.

    • I know what you mean! Haha. I feel like I’m always cooking/baking the same things too though, so I like to try new things to spice things up every once in a while!

  • Good luck with your goals in April! I bet you’ll rock them :)

    xoxo, Jenny

  • Love this idea of sharing goals on the blog. This way it improves accountability for getting things done. Maybe I can help with item 4 – I am looking to colloborate as well. I blog mostly about travel.

    • It absolutely does! I’d love to collaborate with you, travel is my favorite thing to talk about :)

  • Rachel, great effort for March! Even though you didn’t get everything crossed off, you sure gave it a red hot go, well done you!

I LOOOOOOVE doing a clothing purge. Actually, not so much right now as I don’t have much to wear, but I love that I can donate something to charity and know that it is going to get a new lease on life.

Good luck with your April goals, can’t wait to hear about them in May!

    • Thanks, Hollie! Clothing purges are always so refreshing! I’m hoping to set aside some time for it this weekend… and to actually donate the bags that I’ve been meaning to drop off for quite some time now!

  • I keep hearing other bloggers rave about Helene’s courses! I really am hoping to do one over the summer when I have reliable wifi and free time. Way to go on getting 500 Facebook fans!

    • She’s so knowledgeable and has a great list of resources! The Twitter one was really helpful. I’d start with whichever platform you’re wanting to grow (the most) though!

  • Great set of goals Rachel!! Can’t wait to see what April brings for you. Thanks for always being such a great supporter and reader of Primp and Proper!! Xo

  • Paige Allison

Great goals, and I totally agree that posting better quality content is more important that posting frequent content! Cheers to April!

    • Thanks, Paige! Can’t believe we’re almost halfway through April already, yikes!

  • I’ve been trying to be more consistent on instagram as well. And a clothing purge so needs to happen, my closet is exploding!

    • Mine is too! I need to purge quite a bit but I also told myself I’m not allowed to buy anymore clothes unless I get rid of some!

  • Jessica Rose Bignell

What great goals, so broad! I definitely need to get on writing down my goals, I’m so lazy sometimes! Thanks for sharing ☺

    • Thanks, Jessica! I’ve found that writing goals out definitely helps with accountability and getting more accomplished!

  • I definitely am in a recipe rut myself! Let me know if you find any good ones this month.

xx katie // a touch of teal

    • I will! I’m not even sure what I want to try but I’m long overdue to whip something new up!

  • Shannon Paige

I think quality of posts is definitely more important than quantity, so don’t worry! Your goals went so well! Do you have a fitbit? I have started wearing mine again and have been more focused on taking the long routes and getting more steps in. Today I reached over 10k! On days I go to the gym, usually about 12k. Also- you are just like me in the fact that you actually have to put aside time and make it a goal to read! I try, but I just focus on other things in my free time… *thegoodthingscomin.wordpress.com

    • Thanks, Shannon! Yes I do have a FitBit. I love it! I try to hit 10k a day, but my exercise these days is mostly walking. I want to start getting in a more vigorous routine!

  • I have a lot of the same goals! Can’t wait to see what you accomplish!

    • Great minds think alike ;) Good luck with your goals this month!

  • Dana Brillante-Peller

Congrats on the goals you have achieved this far! Especially FB – it’s hard!

    • Thank you! Facebook has definitely been the hardest platform to grow!

  • i started the year off with a bang with reading, but have fizzled out lately. hopefully i get some downtime to read this weekend. congrats on your FB and bloglovin growth, and good luck with the clothing purge! i really need to do that, i keep saying i need to do it, and then i don’t do it. maybe this month!

    • Thank you! I’ve been putting the clothing purge off too. I always find so many other things I’d rather do :)

  • Mar

Congrats on reaching your Facebook goal! I need to put more focus on my FB. What’s your secret?

    • Thank you! I have no idea to be honest, haha. I’ve just been trying a bunch of random things to boost traffic!

  • Clothing purge! Yes! I just did that too! It was so refreshing! :)

    • It really is! Plus, it’s always exciting to be able to replace old things with new!

  • I love all of these goals! Closet purging always makes me feel refreshed and 10k steps a day is so fantastic – I need to purpose to do that myself.

    • Thank you! It’s been ages since I’ve done a big purge so it’s so necessary!

  • Great goals to have! Good luck with them :)

  • Monika

Congrats on reaching your fb and blogloving goals! Ah the past month has been so bad with eating out and not exercising. I definitely want to focus on cooking more and exercising atleast 3 times. Wish you all the luck for April, Rachel :) Hope you are having a fantastic weekend!

    Love,
    Monika | http://www.palateforstyle.com

    • Thanks, Monika! I hope you’ve been able to keep up with the goals you wanted to this month! It’s always helpful to start small!

  • Nice job with the webinar, Facebook, and Bloglovin! It looks like April’s going to be a great month for you. I need to get more sleep too. And read!

    • Thanks, Shann! I think we need more hours in the day to help us tackle all the things :)

  • MGTPA

If you get over 8 hours per sleep 3 days a week, you need to babysit your sisters more!!!

    • I’ve only been getting 8 hours like once a week! I need to catch up on it big time!
