The new Jason Bourne movie hits theaters today, and let me just say, he’s (Matt Damon) still got it! I was able to catch a screening of the film earlier this week with my dad, who was equally impressed.
Believe it or not it’s been 10 years since we saw him in action as the trained “deadly weapon” agent. In Jason Bourne (yes, the movie’s titled after the character’s name which gets a bit confusing), Bourne is lured out of hiding by former operative Nicky Parsons, and is quickly also discovered by CIA director, Robert Dewey, who wants him gone.
There’s also a new agent that comes into play, Heather Lee, who leads the cybersecurity division and works alongside the CIA director. She’s caught in the crossfire of wanting to “do the right thing,” but can never seem to pinpoint exactly what that is. I loved seeing Alicia Vikander in this – especially after her brilliant performance in The Danish Girl.
Jason Bourne doesn’t offer too many dull moments, and even brings in a character similar to a combination of Apple + Facebook, which myself and the audience found pretty entertaining. In fact, what it really came down to was the government and privacy (similar to the battle we see being played out in real life).
To be honest, it’s been a solid decade since I’ve watched any of Matt Damon’s Bourne movies (I really should marathon them again soon), but I loved the action-packed films back in the day, and must say, this one was pretty great too! Filled with lots of high-speed chases, adrenaline, and scenes to keep you on the edge of your seat. But will this be the end for Bourne or is there more to come? You’ll have to see the movie to find out!
