August 2016 Goals

It’s the beginning of a new month.. again. Funny how time seems to fly post-college but when you’re growing on it drags on forever! I’d very much like a pause button on time for a bit. Does anyone have a time turner (Harry Potter reference for those unfamiliar) I can borrow?

Recap of July Goals

Let’s take a quick look back at how I did in July.

  1. Read one book. YES! I started Maybe in Another Life but then Harry Potter and the Cursed Child came out on Sunday and I read the entire thing in one sitting. SO GOOD! I guess I should get back to my other book now…
  2. Solidify this year’s dad-daughter trip. Done! We set our dates and are in the process of booking flights, hotels, and activities/excursions.
  3. Hit 1,700 followers on Instagram. Check! Follow me here!
  4. Pay it Forward x3. Success! I passed on my parking lot ticket to someone so they didn’t have to pay, bought coffee for the person in the drive-thru line behind me, and helping people get their luggage up and take it down on a recent flight.
  5. Have one blog post pre-written at all times. Didn’t even come close on this one.

New Goals for August

  1. Walk 10k steps a day. I used to be SO good at this, but since switching from a FitBit to an Apple Watch, my steps have declined quite a bit. Time to get back on the fitness train!
  2. Establish a new budget + SAVE. With quite a bit of travel expenses the past few months and ahead, it’s time to take a break from so much spending.
  3. Respond to comments/emails in a timely fashion. I’ve been a little slow in my responses to both this summer and am ready to get back on track with it now that I have a little more free time on my hands for the next few weeks.
  4. Launch blog newsletter. This has been on my radar for a while now and I’m hoping to finally get a newsletter started!

Tell me, what’s on your goal list for August?

  • Goldwill Digger

Way to go! I always want to have one blog post pre-written but never come close either! Walking 10k steps a day is also a daily goal of mine! Good luck in August!

    • Thank you! Every once in a while I’ll get a little ahead but I always seem to fall back quickly, haha. Good luck to you this month as well!

  • Way to go on with all of your goals so far this year! I’m loving your goal for trying to hit 10,000 steps/day in August. I can find myself just wanting to be super lazy during the summer and not walking that much either!

    • Thanks, Ashley! It’s so unbelievably hot outside it’s tough to get out and walk for sure. I try to head out when I see a thunderstorm rolling in so it’s a little breezier but then sometimes end up getting hit with the rain!

  • I’ll be interested in seeing how you are budgeting!

    • Thanks, Christine! Once I figure it out I’ll be sure to share it!

  • Oh man, I really have to get better about blog comments too! I’m on top of YouTube (for the most part) but I totally neglect my website because I’m the worst. And AHHH I am texting you immediately because none of my other friends have finished The Cursed Child yet and I NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT. Also, Pokemon should help with your walking if you’re still playing!

    • Oh we do have SO much to talk about with it! Nobody I know has finished either! I read it insanely fast.. couldn’t put it down! I think I need to go back and read it again! Also absolutely still playing Pokemon but there’s nothing good in my neighborhood, haha. I might need to venture elsewhere!

  • Okay maybe I’ll have to pick up the HP book, I just hate reading books that are in play formats.

    • I’m not a fan of play formatted books usually either, but after a few pages of this one I didn’t even think about it!

  • i have been slow with blog reading and responding to comments lol so i need to work on that as well. i hope you like maybe in another life when you get back to it!

    • I blame everything on summer, haha. Thanks! I need to pick it back up again. A decent amount of my free time has been sucked into a Gilmore Girls marathon lately :)

  • OMG I’m so bad lately at hitting my 10,000 steps! Embarrassing. And I read the new HP book in a day too!

    • I blame it on summer :) What did you think of the book?!

  • Neely

These are great goals! Good luck with them :)

  • linda spiker

    Great goals! You go girl!

  • Hopefully you’re able to reach and dominate them all!

  • Oh gosh, you did fab on your goals!! Good for you!! Cheers to another month

  • Leslie Nichole

Good job going through those goals for last month. Good luck for this month too.

    • Thank you, Leslie! Good luck with goals you set this month as well!

  • Yay good luck on the newsletter! I used to be so scared to start mine but now I’m so glad I did.

    xoxo, Jenny

    • Thanks, Jenny! I’m excited to start it, it’s just a matter of implementing, haha.

  • Creating a blog newsletter is something I need to do this month. Good luck with all of your goals!

    • Thanks, Lexi! Good luck with getting your newsletter up and running too!

  • I’m working on responding to my comments/emails more consistently this month, as well! And good job paying it forward! Also, you really liked HP? I’ve been really afraid that it might ruin the story for me!

    • It won’t ruin the story! It was actually really fascinating how they combined the future with the past storylines! Have you started reading yet?

  • I need to get my August goals organized too. :|
I’ve been looking into Maybe in Another Life! Worth a read from what you’ve read so far?
Go and get those steps, girl! You can do it. Good luck with your goals! :)

    Christie’s Take on Life. xx

    • It’s much different than I expected so far but I like it! I hope you’re able to get your goals together and rock them this month too, Christie!

  • Terryn Winfield

Harry Potter in ONE sitting?! Lol. Love your July goal of paying it forward! And a daddy daughter trip? I am so jealous, that is the sweetest. Good luck this month!

    • Absolutely, haha. I’m the biggest fan! I used to go to the midnight book parties and movie screenings :)

  • Greta Hollar

You had a good July! Good luck with August!

    Greta |

  • Funny. I was talking about needing a time turner yesterday too!! I need to plan our anniversary trip! It will be here before I know it!

    • I need to apparate to the wizarding world so I can pick one up :) An anniversary trip sounds exciting! Where are you thinking of going?

  • It’s so awesome that you hit almost all your goals! I love how simplified you make them so you don’t have to stress about it. I need to work on that myself. Good luck with your goals!

    xo, Kimberly

    • Thanks, Kimberly! It definitely helps to try to plan them out a little bit. Writing them definitely helps keep you a little more accountable too!

  • Hmm, why do you think your steps have gone down since starting the Apple watch? I’ve been thinking about switching over from a Fitbit too but that discourages me!

Danielle @ afloat on a full sea

    • The Fitbit app is AMAZING but the Apple Health one doesn’t have a dashboard as friendly. I think it’s just a matter of being used to how Fitbit presents all of the data vs. how Apple does. It might just be me! Hopefully I’ll get back on track soon!

  • Lauren Jane

One of my goals this month is to hit 10K a day! I totally let myself slide with some emotional crud and now I need to get back on the wagon! Great job with hitting your goals!

    • Good luck hitting your step goal! I hope things get better emotionally for you as well. That definitely discourages me from being on my game too!

  • I’ve been meaning to launch a blog newsletter for almost a year now. Procrastination at it’s finest!

    • I know it well! Hopefully we’ll both get ours off the ground soon :)

  • Jessica Hughes

I love that you added pay it forward to your list-great idea!

  • I love that you take a dad and daughter trip every year…so cool. Also, the pay it forward one too. Best of luck with August…hope it slows down a little.

    • Thanks, Shann! It’s so nice to get separate quality time with both of my parents. And paying it forward is super important! I want to try to make it stick as much as possible!

  • Awesome set of goals! I’m trying to run two days a week, every week. I’m also trying not to spend money on anything non-essential beauty and fashion pieces.

    • Thanks, Kiara! Good luck with your runs and semi-spend freeze! Both are tough motivationally, haha.

  • Rachel Golden

I’ve been dying to read the newest Harry Potter book! Everyone seems to have it and i can’t wait to dive in. One of my biggest goals this month is to finally reach 1500 followers on Instagram. I’m getting there! Hopefully sooner rather than later.

    • I hope you love it! Let me know what you think when you’re done. I need to talk to more people about it! Good luck with reaching your Instagram goal!

  • Leslie Nichole

You’ve got great goals and you did great last month. I need to start wearing my fitbit, I’ve forgotten about it since it’s been so hot lately. Good luck with your goals!

    • Thanks, Leslie! Summertime’s always slower for me with getting up and moving. It’s too hot! Good luck to you too!

  • I’m trying to get back on my fitness game this month too! Good luck with all of your goals!!

    • Idk what it is about fitness, but it’s always tough to get back on track with it. Good luck to you too!

  • These are great goals! One of my goals is to launch an ebook for my blog. We can do it!

  • Love your goals! I definitely need to cut back on spending and do more saving too! Great job with your July goals! I really need to pick up the new Harry Potter book!

    • Thank you, Jess! I hope you enjoy the HP book when you get around to reading it! Good luck with your saving too!

  • Dia

You had a good month! I love the idea of paying it forward! Good luck with your August!

    • Thanks, Dia! I think paying it forward is so important!

  • I see you have already hit 1,700 followers on IG! You go girl!

xx katie // a touch of teal

  • Great job! It’s definitely a lot harder than it sounds, haha. I have a lot of ideas but haven’t gotten around to actually implementing them just yet. I can’t wait to see what you put together!
