A Stay at NYC’s Hotel Elysee

A few weeks ago Ted and I ventured up to NYC for a quick weekend getaway to see Hamilton on Broadway! I immediately thought of the Library Hotel Collection, a fantastic brand I’ve had the pleasure of staying with in Europe, at their properties in Budapest and Prague, when it was time to book a hotel.

Library Hotel Collection has a few properties in NYC (I hope to make it to all of them one day), but our home base for this getaway was Hotel Elysee!

History + Location

Hotel Elysee was built in the 1920s and named after one of the finest French restaurants at the time (the French decor + inspo is still highly prevalent throughout the hotel). It’s definitely what I’d consider “Classy Manhattan” and reminds me a little bit of the Mad Men days!

The hotel is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city on the Midtown East/Upper East side between Madison and Park Ave, but still, just a few steps away from some of the best shopping in the city, and just a few blocks from Central Park.

The Room

When it comes to hotel rooms in NYC, you never know what you’re going to get. And by that I mean more often than not, you’re dealing with pretty tiny quarters. But at Hotel Elysee, we had plenty of space in our room, which even contained a small hallway between the bathroom and bedroom!

First up was the bathroom. SO gorgeous, right?! I love the marble decor, definitely an added touch of luxury! The toiletries were from Gilchrist & Soames’ Verde collection, which I was pretty excited about. G&S is one of my favorite brands!

In the hallway, our room had some vintage decor and a mini fridge, which came in handy for us storing leftover cookie dough from the new hotspot, DO!

We had plenty of storage space in the room as well, with 2 chairs, another fridge (with a paid mini bar), dresser with TV, and a desk. I was pretty excited when I saw a brochure on the desk advertising Hotel Elysee’s sister property, the Aria Hotel Budapest, as it was the first hotel of the Library Collection I stayed at!

Service + Amenities

Every day from 5-8 there’s a FREE wine + cheese reception in the second floor lounge area for hotel guests. The hotel’s lounge also has serious living room vibes, which makes it even better! You can just hang on a couch and chat while unwinding from a day around the city and/or gearing up to head out for the evening.

You can also swing by the lounge during other times of the day for fresh fruit, cookies, tea, and coffee!

Also included in your stay at Hotel Elysee is a continental breakfast to fuel up in the morning, high speed internet, and passes to the New York Sports Club if you’re wanting to get a workout in during your stay.

You can also grab the latest issues of the major newspapers and even borrow a book to curl up and read or DVD to watch in your room, which is awesome considering most places charge an arm and a leg for an in-room movie rental!

As expected, our stay at Hotel Elysee was top notch! If you’re planning a trip to the “Big Apple,” you’ll definitely want to consider this property for your stay!

You can view Hotel Elysee’s latest package specials here or follow along for the hotel’s latest updates on Facebook and Twitter.

I received a complimentary stay for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

What a beautiful hotel! We went to Budapest on our honeymoon in 2015. I can’t remember the name of the hotel we stayed at but I know it wasn’t the one you mentioned. I love when people mention Budapest because it’s such a wonderful city but it’s not a place people typically go. You wrote a great review of this NYC hotel!

    • Thanks, J. I also LOVED Budapest (and went in 2015 too – how ironic)! I didn’t really know what to expect going in but I definitely think it’s one of Europe’s hidden gems!
