5 Ways to Live Happier

Happy Tuesday, friends. Did any of you catch that ridiculous Bachelorette finale last night? This was my first time watching a full season of The Bachelorette (and also The Bachelor earlier this year). I was totally rooting for Rachel, but that ending was just rough. Buuuut today’s post isn’t about all of that negativity. It’s about happiness.

Did you know that today is “Happiness Happens Day?” Sure, it’s one of those random, silly holidays, but it’s a great reminder for us to find joy in the little things in life. It was created in 1998 to recognize and express happiness, which is something I think this world needs a little more of! To get you started, here are 5 ways to live happier!

5 ways to live happier

Embrace an Optimistic Mindset

In life, your mindset is EVERYTHING. Things don’t always go according to plan. In fact, more often than not, they go the exact opposite of how you planned. But instead of getting angry or upset, try look at it from a different angle and find something positive in the situation. It makes ALL the difference, and most of the time, your backup plan ends up being even better than the original!

Pay it Forward

I don’t know about you, but whenever I’m able to help someone or do something nice for them, it ALWAYS boosts my mood x 1000! Kindness is totally free and not only does it make you happier, but it also makes others happier! Not sure where to begin? Check out these simple ways to pay it forward.

Surround Yourself with the Right People

Ain’t nobody got time for negativity, am I right?! By surrounding yourself with supportive people and getting rid of the toxic influences in your life (e.g. people, social media), you’ll feel better, smile more, and likely have more of those deep belly laughs where you’re laughing so hard you can’t breathe and have tears streaming down your face. <– Seriously the best moments in life.

Find Peace with Your Past

Do you ever find yourself replaying a past situation over and over again in your head? Whether it was a mistake made, an argument, or any other kind of negativity in your past that looms over you, find peace with it and let it go. As the wise Rafiki (yes, from Lion King) said, “The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.” The past is in the past. You can’t change it. All you can do is move forward and look forward to a positive tomorrow.

Take Care of Yourself

Last but not least, take care of yourself! Say yes to exciting opportunities, say no to ones that don’t bring you joy. Splurge on something you’ve been eyeing (obviously within reason), plan a trip, eat that dessert! What it all comes down to is doing the things that make YOU happy!

What are some things you do to live happier?
