Christmas Gift Guide: 5 Picks for Kids

We’re closing in on Christmas – just over 2 weeks to go! If you’re still trying to figure out what to get your loved ones, you can look to my gift guides (for him and for her) for inspiration!

There are SO many things to choose from when shopping for kids, so I sifted through some of the noise and picked 5 of my favorite gift ideas for across a few different age groups for both boys and girls.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Magic Set

Just about every kid loves putting shows on at home for the family, so this Deluxe Magic Set ($26) is a fun gift for those who love to perform and show off their talents of magic!

Family TableTopics

Getting everyone to put their phones, tablets, etc. away at the table can sometimes be a struggle, so the family edition of TableTopics ($25) is a great way to keep the whole family entertained! There are a lot of fun topics and you’ll learn a lot of things about each other that you might not have known before!

PopSocket

For kids with smartphones, PopSockets ($10) are a fun and affordable gift! They stick to the back of your phone and help enhance the grip and positioning of your phone. And if you’re shopping for someone who’s prone to drop their phone a lot, this is a must have!

Highlights for Children Magazine

If you’re looking for something to keep brains going, you can’t go wrong with a Highlights Magazine subscription ($30 for 12 issues)! These were my favorite growing up and my sisters loved them as well! Plus, it’s like the gift that keeps on giving because a new issue comes every month so it lasts throughout the year!

Nintendo Switch

If you’re looking for a “big kahuna” type of gift, the Nintendo Switch ($300) is great for video game lovers and/or the whole family! In addition to single and multi-player games at home, you can also pop the system out and take a small portable version of it to go, so it’s almost like a 2-in-1 gift!

  • Funny, because my husband is getting one of the items on this list! ;) He’s a big gamer so I bought him the Nintendo Switch. I love the conversation starters too – my family had a trivia book growing up that we used at dinner time too.

    • How exciting! I hope he likes it! My boyfriend’s a big gamer too – we’re all just big kids, haha. Love that your fam used trivia books! Have you played the HQ trivia game (app)? You’d probably do really well on it!

I always LOVED getting Highlights as a kid! I felt so special every time one would come in the mail. Is it bad that I want the Switch for me?! haha!! Definitely going to use this list for my nephews!

    • Me too! Part of me wants to subscribe to relive the magic, haha. And totally fine that you want it for yourself – I think so many gifts spread across all the age groups!

  • Such fun gift guide, my brother is gamer! i still needs to get him gift!

    • I hope you were able to find him something good :)

  • Yes! Great ideas! I’ve needed some help. Thank you!

    • Thank you! It’s definitely the “hot” gaming system this year! I bet a lot of people got them for Christmas!

  • I just got a pop socket from work, and I’m about to get a new phone case, so I haven’t used it yet, but I’m excited to put it on my phone. I love the idea of the Table Topics. What an awesome way to get to know each other.

    • I hope you like it! And YES! Table Topics is so much fun – you definitely learn a lot about other people!

  • All my friends have popsockets.

  • Nichole

Love these, especially the table topics. I don’t have kids or ever have any to buy for but this is a good reference. Table topics would be a good idea because so many kids have iPhones now a days. Lol.

    • Oh, absolutely! I think it’s a good way to make sure everyone’s present instead of just staring at their phones!

  • Miss ALK

Highlights Magazine!! TBT!! I used to love getting that and the American Girl magazine in the mail.

I haven’t gotten a pop socket yet for my phone but this one looks cute!!

    • I haven’t set mine up yet but have used them on friends/family members’ phones and they’re pretty great!

  • My boyfriend just bought a Nintendo Switch and he’s so excited!

    • How fun! Guys and their video games.. lol! I bet he’s loving it!

  • mckenna bleu

Highlights is such a great idea. I loooooved that.

  • How adorable is the “Highlights” game! I remember playing that when I was younger!

  • Kaitlyn Fickle Killebrew

I love Melissa and Doug products! Some of my favorites as a kid!

    • They really do have the best toys for kids! My sisters had so many of their products and loved them too!

  • I got a popsocket at a conference this year and it is amazing. I feel like such a hip teen with it, and it really does keep me from dropping my phone on my face while scrolling in bed

    • Haha, I know! I thought it was so funny that they started out as a kid/teen product but quickly expanded into the adult market. Dropping your phone on your face is the WORST!

  • Love your picks! I could actually use a popsocket haha!

    • Thanks, Cameron! I haven’t set mine up yet but I’ve heard nothing but good things from everyone I know with them!

  • I have a Popsocket and LOVE it! It’s seriously the best.
