One of the biggest struggles when it comes to successfully planning a trip is budget, especially when looking at flight prices. But did you know you can earn airline miles even when you’re not flying? Here are a few of my favorite ways to do so!
Get a Rewards Credit Card
The easiest thing to do? Get a rewards credit card! There are SO many out there, so it’s important to compare things like annual fee, points earned, etc. to make sure you’re getting the card that will offer the best return for you. It’s also worth noting that most travel rewards cards offer a big points bonus if you spend a certain amount in the first 3-4 months of opening.
My first rewards credit card was with a specific airline, but after a couple years, I discovered the Chase Sapphire Preferred and made the switch because earning 2 points per $1 spent on travel and restaurant/food purchases AND being able to transfer the points to my favorite airlines (not just tied to one) just made more sense for me.
Donate to Charity
It’s always a great feeling when you’re able to give back to the community and donate to charities. But did you know that you can also earn airline miles for your donations? Only a few non-profits, like Susan G. Komen, offer this, but it’s a nice perk, whether you’re able to donate $25 or $5,000!
Shop Through Online Mall Portals
Saving the best for last – my #1 weapon when it comes to quickly racking airline miles up! Whether it’s through your credit card company or your favorite airline, check out the “mall portal” of your favorite brand (I frequent Southwest’s), where you can shop at your favorite stores and earn miles.
The deals switch up pretty frequently, but essentially you can earn anywhere from .5 points per dollar spent to thousands of points for a single transaction. If you’re already planning to shop, why not earn miles while you’re at it?!
