Fun Findings Friday #116

I was starting to think Friday would never get here, but alas, it has! I’ve been feeling pretty rotten all week after catching some cold/flu/sinus thing, so I’m looking forward to getting some R&R tonight/tomorrow (aka quality time with Netflix in my sweatpants). Also, it’s Super Bowl weekend! While I’m not really a fan of either team, I have a feeling it’s going to be an intense game! But really, I’m excited for the commercials, lots of food, and hanging with friends.

I hope you all have a fun SB (and also Gasparilla if you’re in Tampa) weekend! And now, I’ll leave you with my weekly Fun Findings Friday post!

A Celebration of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando
This weekend (starting today) is Universal Orlando’s annual “A Celebration of Harry Potter” weekend! With cast members from the film, an awesome expo, and lots of HP all around, this is one of the best weekends to visit for fans! My fellow HP-obsessed friend Jazmyne and I went last year and had a blast! Unfortunately we’re not going to make it there for this year’s celebration, but fortunately we only live a little over an hour away and can visit HP World any other time. If you’re a local, I hope you can make it out for the Celebration (admission is included with a regular theme park ticket or annual pass)!

SIX:02’s #DontSweatYourPants
During the month of January (meaning tomorrow’s your last day to do this), you can bring in an old pair of workout pants (which will be donated to Goodwill) to your local SIX:02 store, and receive a $10 store credit to upgrade and purchase a new pair  of Under Armour pants to get you fitness-ready for 2015. Some styles are already on sale too, so if you’re in the market for some new workout pants, keep this in mind! Also, the company is giving away a $100 gift card on Instagram, so post away with #DontSweatYourPants!

Mom-Daughter Frozen Duet
This mom-daughter duet video is the best! First, “Love is An Open Door” is the best/funniest song from Frozen. Second, I love how into the song they get! I do the exact same thing with my sisters when they’re in the car with me (minus the recording a video part)!

Fancy Box: March Review

I stumbled across Fancy a little over a month ago and since then, I’ve been completely obsessed with everything on their platform (i.e. app and website). If you’re not familiar with them, think of all of the fun things we post for Fun Findings Friday every week – basically random, awesome, really cool, fun stuff. Needless to say, when I found out there was a monthly subscription box to get said random, awesome, really cool, fun stuff – I hopped right on it.

A Fancy Box costs $39/mo. + $7.95 shipping – for a total of $46.95 and ach box is guaranteed to be worth $80+. When you subscribe to your box, you’ll be asked to select which categories you want items from: Men’s, Women’s, Kids, Pets, Home, Gadgets, Media, Sports & Outdoors, and Workspace and if you’re torn – don’t worry, you get to pick more than one.

For my first box (which came yesterday), I selected: Women’s, Home, and Gadgets and here’s a look at what I got:

Citrus Zinger Water Bottle
I was first introduced to fruit-infused water my freshman year of college and ever since, I’ve loved it. I’m probably most excited about this Citrus Zinger Water Bottle ($17) than anything else in my box. The instructions show simple direction of putting your fruit of choice at the bottom to add some “zing” to your water and even better, it’s in a portable bottle so you can take your delicious water with you when you’re away from home. Additionally, the Citrus Zinger Water Bottle is BPA-free and dishwasher safe. It’s safe to say I’ll be using this product quite a bit!

Broom Groomer Mini
I haven’t used it yet, but I’m seriously loving this Broom Groomer Mini from Quirky ($10). Easy to tote, this handy household accessory seems perfect for cleaning up small spaces – whether it be in the kitchen, office or car. The dustpan is also closed in at the bottom, making it easier for you to contain debris after sweeping it up, which isn’t always the case with bigger dustpan sets. I’ll definitely be using this!

Clocky Rolling Runaway Alarm Clock
If you’ve been following the blog for awhile, you might remember that we featured this Clocky Rolling Runaway Alarm Clock ($45) on our Fun Findings some time ago, so I was pretty excited to find this gem in my Fancy Box. I was slightly disappointed to find a black Clocky after opening the box, but the front of the box does have a disclaimer that says color might not match the picture exactly. Still, I find this alarm clock intriguing since rather than parking right next to your bed, it rolls around your room and forces you to wake up.

Pilot & Captain Paris Tee
I was least excited about this Pilot & Captain Paris Tee ($32). Cool concept, but I’d never buy that shirt for myself – or anyone I know. That said, it is an incredibly soft shirt that would be great for pajama time.

Shoptiques Gift Card
The 5th item in my March Fancy Box was a $10 gift certificate to Shoptiques. I’m not familiar with the site but after receiving the $10 credit, I immediately went to check their site out and there seems to be a pretty big selection of items to choose from – supposedly from the world’s best boutiques. I’m glad The Fancy exposed me to this website full of unique fashionable items, but at the same time I wish I received an extra item instead. After all, the surprise items are what these box subscriptions are all about!

The box also came with cute information cards about each of the products and 2 Fancy-branded stickers. So, my final thoughts? I paid about $50 for the box (with no coupon) and the total retail value of the box was about $117. Not bad at all!

To subscribe to your own Fancy Box, click here and enter the code “25OFF5” at checkout to receive $25 off your first box!

*Keep in mind that orders placed between the 1st-15th will ship out on the 30th of the month and if you place your order the 16th of the month til’ the end, your box will ship on the 15th of the next month.

PopSugar Must Have Box: March Review

With my recent subscription box kick, I stumbled across the Popsugar Must Have Box – yes, the Popsugar we all know and love. After checking out the past couple months of their boxes through their website and other bloggers reviews, I decided to take the plunge and subscribe for the one-month box price of $35 (free shipping included).

Each box features “must have” items categorized by home, fashion, and beauty. There are a few different subscription options for the box. Obviously, the longer you commit, the better the deal in the long run. Although it might seem a little pricey, keep in mind that the box is guaranteed to feature items totaling $100. You can subscribe for:

  • $35 – 1 mo.
  • $95 – 3 mo.
  • $190 – 6 mo.
  • $380 – 12 mo. (1 month free)

The box shipped out from California on March 4 and arrived at my door in Florida yesterday, March 12 (seemed like a lifetime waiting for this package to arrive and tracking it)! I must say, I loved a lot of the items in the box – but I was slightly disappointed with this one in comparison to what came in previous boxes (from my research). That said, I’m looking forward to the boxes ahead (and hope more home category products will make their way into my box)!

Here’s a closer look at what came in March’s box:

Heather Belle Signature Tassel Necklace
Long necklaces are all the rage in the fashion world and the inclusion of this Octagon Tassel Necklace from Heather Belle ($72) proved just that. I do love this necklace – however I’m not a fan of gold jewelry on myself so this is kind of a waste for me. Great item to regift though!

The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo
For the most part I stick with Biolage or Organix shampoos and although I’ve been pretty loyal to those brands, I was excited to see a more upscale shampoo in the box – Wool & Cashmere Shampoo from The Laundress ($19). You’d think in a sampler-type box like this one, you’d receive a much smaller sampler but surprisingly, this was a full-size 16 oz. shampoo bottle. I can’t wait to use it!

Corkatoo Corkscrew
This was by far my favorite item in the box, which I’m sure you could’ve guessed if you’ve followed the Fun Findings series on our blog. From True Fabrications, this Corkatoo Corkscrew ($16) acts as a two-in-one kitchen/bar gadget as a beer can opener and foil cutter/wine opener. This absolutely just skyrocketed to my favorite kitchen accessory (and I love the color)!

Buxom Sculpted Lash Mascara
When it comes to makeup, I’m a Bare Minerals girl all the way. But between hearing my best friend (and co-blogger) Kayla rave about how great this Buxom mascara is and receiving it in this box, I’m thinking it’s a sign that I need to test it out. The Sculpted Lash Mascara ($19) seems to be at the top of the mascara review boards as well.

Hollywood Fashion Secrets Sweater Saver
This Sweater Saver accessory from Hollywood Fashion Secrets ($6) will be making it’s way into my purse immediately. Much savvier than a jumbo lint brush, this subtle brick will do the job removing pilling, fuzz and knots from your clothing (and is an eco-friendly product). I haven’t tried it yet but I think it’ll be a life saving extra in my bag when on-the-go.

The New Black Nail Polish
The Pardon My French set of The New Black nail polish ($10) came in metallic green and blue. Although I typically don’t paint my own nails (painting with my left hand gets a little sloppy) or choose these colors, I’m excited to try these out. I’ve heard great things about this brand and think these nail polish minis would be perfect to use for a weekend getaway down at the beach or by the pool.

According to my research, this month’s PopSugar Must Have box retails out at about $142 which is incredible considering I only spent $35! If you’re interested in subscribing to your own Popsugar Must Have Box, visit their site here – and don’t forget to use the promo code “SAVE5PSMH” to save $5 off your order! If you already subscribe, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this month’s box in the comments!

Essential Apps: March

If you’re in the market for some new apps, I’ve featured my top 3 must have apps for March below. If you download/use any of them, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter have been around for quite some time now. And despite the fact that it seems like we just hopped on board with the sites a year or two ago, our relationship with these sites are around the age of an elementary school kid. Let that sink in for a minute. Once you’ve accepted it’s been that long that you’ve been on social media, download the Timehop app. This free app allows you to link your various social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Foursquare)  and acts as a time capsule, showing you what happened x years ago – via your social media updates. This is my favorite of the apps I’ve recently stumbled upon. I’ve had a lot of OMG moments with photos and status’ popping up on here. You must download!

I’m absolutely obsessed with the Fancy app. Also free (to browse), this site has every awesome crazysexycool item you could possibly think up! An inspiration for many of the things featured on my Fun Findings Friday posts. If you’re a fan of the above-mentioned things, this app is for you! I’ve found myself browsing day and night on this app and have found many things to add to my wish list (as well as gift ideas). Another must have (especially on iPads)!

Subway Surfers
If you’re a commuter, this app is absolutely for you (just make sure your phone’s charged up). The Subway Surfers app is quite addicting and fun to compete against friends on. The background story on the game is that the main character (Jake) is a graffiti artist who gets caught working on his masterpiece by the train conductor (in case you’re wondering who the man chasing your character is). This free app has a lot of power-ups, boosts, and coin collecting. Additionally, if you link your game up with Facebook you can see where your FB friends rank against you in the game.
