Essential Apps: August 2013

Desti:
One of the most challenging parts of planning a trip is finding a place to stay within your budget – especially if you’re unfamiliar with the area. The Desti app features an extremely detailed filter, asking more than the standard questions (i.e. location, number of people, dates). Desti allows you to add in your budget and what type of hotel (e.g. kid-friendly, romantic). Additionally, you’re provided with everything you want to know about the hotel. The only downside to it is that it’s currently restricted to select U.S. destinations, as it’s still in beta. Here’s to hoping European hotels will be added soon!

BuzzFeed:
Although this app isn’t interactive like most others (i.e. game, productivity, etc.), it’s one of the best! I frequent the Buzzfeed website daily, and love that now rather than pulling up the site, I can check for new content on my iPhone or iPad. The Buzzfeed app also lets you choose which types of content you like the best and creates a personalized newsfeed for you based on this. But no matter what you choose, you’re guaranteed to be cracking up at what you read!

Zillow:
This app has recently become an essential for me, as I recently got a letter for my lease renewal. Although I still have a few months before my lease is up, I’m looking for a new place to move into and have been on the hunt for the perfect location/place. The Zillow app allows me to narrow down my search and find potential options for renting and/or buying and is great for on-the-go searching when you’re not able to access listings on a computer.
