I’m always on the hunt for fun games to play with friends and family and was intrigued upon stumbling across The Game of Things and couldn’t wait to check it out! Patch Products kindly sent me a copy of the game to review and will also be sending The Game of Things to one lucky reader (enter below).
The Game of Things is filled with LOTS of laughs and a lot different than your typical game. Each player is given a slip of paper to write their responses on and a designated reader (you choose who) picks a topic card and reads aloud for the group (e.g. Things you shouldn’t do at a party). All the players write their funny/crazy/weird answer down, folds their paper, and adds it to the pile of responses.
Next, the reader repeats the topic and reads each of the responses aloud (once or twice depending how good everyone’s memories are) and the players take turns guessing who wrote what. If your guess is wrong, you’re still in, you just have to wait to guess again until you’re up in the circle. If you guess someone right, you’re also still in, but the person who you guessed is out for the round.
Although the game is recommended for ages 14+, you can play this with kids who can read/write. Keep in mind that you might need to sort through some of the topic cards to find one that they’ll understand or that’s fully appropriate for their age. I played this with my family over Thanksgiving (including a 6 and 8 year old) and they loved it! We couldn’t stop laughing at the responses everyone wrote. The only downside was how bad my poker face was when my response was read aloud. I’ll need to work on that!
This is absolutely the most fun I’ve had playing a game in a long time! Whether you’re hanging with your family over the holidays or having friends over for drinks, I highly recommend having The Game of Things handy for guest entertainment. This is a pretty good way of seeing how much you really know about your friends and fam, guessing who said what. I love it! Can’t wait to play again this month with so many Christmas parties coming up.
