Last week I was introduced to an awesome initiative by the Laser Spine Institute + Tampa Bay Lightning, that combines two of my favorite things: food and charity.
More than 700,000 people in the Tampa Bay area go hungry each day, 250,000 being children. In effort to fight this hunger in the TB community, the Give & Grub Food Truck was created. For each meal purchased from the truck, a meal is donated to a hungry child in the Tampa area, via a partnership with Feeding America Tama Bay and Metropolitan Ministries.
Although Give & Grub just kicked off a few months ago (October 2014), over 25,000 meals have already been donated through the program!
The Give & Grub menu is pretty impressive – gourmet and chosen by/named after the TB Lightning players! I was able to sample a few of the menu items and they did not disappoint.
First up was the Chicken Parmkos (named after Lightning player Steven Stamkos). This is one of the top-sellers (and my favorite) at the food truck – who doesn’t love chicken parm!?
Last but not least, the Philly Cheesesteak. This is another new addition to the Give & Grub menu, selected for its popularity in food trucks. The cheese used? Gouda. Yes, please!
All of the items I sampled were amazing! I’m already looking forward to trying another item on the menu the next time the truck rolls around. You definitely need to bring your appetite when you visit the truck though- the positions are very generous!
If you live outside of the Tampa area, or are unable to make it to a location where the Give & Grub truck will be, you can still get involved! Simply use #GiveandGrub on social media, and BOOM, another meal donated. It’s the easiest way you can give back!
As of now, you can find the Give & Grub food truck exclusively in the Tampa Bay area (find out where you can catch the truck here), but keep your eyes peeled because there’s definitely a possibility of expansion in the future!
What’s your favorite food truck menu item?
