Today marks a big milestone for my little sister – she’s turning double digits AND it’s her golden birthday (turning 10 on the 10th)! In honor of the occasion, I’ve naturally been combing through old photos, and telling her lots of stories and memories I have about her growing up over the years.
I feel like such an old lady saying this, but I feel like it was just yesterday that she was born. I remember my parents heading to the hospital but there still being at least another day before she was born. I received an invite from my crush at the time to see a movie and was SO excited. But when I called to make sure it was ok with my parents, the answer was no. Because it could be baby time at any minute. I was SO mad.
A few hours later, I got a call. It was baby time. And I had to give my aunt a call so she could pick me up and we could get to the airport right away. And although I’m confident there was definitely more than enough time for me to see that movie before baby Riley arrived, I couldn’t be more excited to have a baby sister hours later!
Flash forward a couple years later, when my mom had my youngest sister. Returning home from the hospital after a couple of days being away, Riley ignored her for days! My poor mom wasn’t happy about it, but it was pretty hysterical from my perspective to see her blatantly ignore mom and act like she didn’t exist because she brought home a baby!
Speaking of baby, her “baby doll” has been her daily staple since she was a baby, and although she’s become worn down over the years, Baby Doll still travels with her everywhere she goes. I hope this habit lasts forever. It’s just too precious not to!
Wishing the happiest of birthdays to my sweet sis! But seriously, stop growing up!!
Although Ry has a fun-filled day ahead of her, I’ll be joining the celebration this evening with my family, which will absolutely continue into the weekend. Because birthday celebrations in my family go on for more than just one day!
How do you celebrate milestone birthdays?
