May 2016 Goals

I probably sound like a broken record, but I’ll continue on with it because I really cannot believe another month has come and gone! It seems like time keeps going faster and faster. I wish I could pause it for a bit! But a new month means time to check in on last month’s goals and set some new ones for this month.

Let’s take a quick look back at last month’s goals to see how I did.

  1. Focus on quality content (3-4 posts per week). Done! Lowering the number of posts per week has really given me some time back to focus on other things and it’s been really great!
  2. Clothing purge. I made some headway on this, but it’s something I definitely want to revisit again soon!
  3. Read one book. Complete fail on this one. I read an issue of US Weekly, but that doesn’t really count.
  4. Get 8+ hours of sleep at least 3 nights a week. Not even close on this. I hit 8+ hours only once a week consistently through all of April.
  5. Post on Instagram 2-3x/week. Check! Looking back at my feed for the month, I held steady with 2 posts per week.

may 2016 goals

I’m hoping May will be a better month in terms of accomplishing goals! Here’s what I’m hoping to achieve.

  1. Do some spring cleaning. Life gets busy and the clutter piles up. It’s been looking a bit rough lately (especially in the kitchen and bedroom areas), so it’s time to tackle the clutter!
  2. Eat out less (2x max per week). Usually this one’s a domino effect for me. If I eat out once or twice, it continues onward until I’m eating out like every day. No bueno on the wallet. I’m going to challenge myself to eating out a max of 2x per week (this is taking into account weekend activities already planned in May).
  3. Better define my blog strategy. This is more of a behind-the-scenes thing, but I want to better define an overall strategy for my blog, in terms of posts, partnerships, etc.
  4. Clean up old blog posts. I’ve had STCL for over 4 years now, and since transferring over to WordPress last year, there is quite a bit of “cleaning up” I’ve been needing to do!
  5. Read Me Before You. I’m going to reattempt my reading goal this month with one that’s been on my shelf for a while. Since the movie comes out early next month, I really want to finish it!

What are your goals for May?

8 hours of sleep is a worthy goal. I wish!

    • Ugh, seriously! I think I need to force myself to shut down for it more often!

  • Great job on accomplishing your goals last month. I try to get at least 8+ hrs of sleep each night. Typically I do well with this when I do not have anything crazy going on. Last month I did not get 8+ hrs each night unfortunately. Reading has been a goal that I have been trying to accomplish. I am currently reading Leave Your Mark and it is really good. I have also been trying to clean up old blog posts. It takes so much time to do. Good luck with your goals this month!

    • Thanks, Mistle! That’s awesome that you’re able to get 8 hours of sleep in most nights. I wish I could shut my brain off from all of the things! I’ve heard great things about Leave Your Mark, I’ll have to check it out!

  • Congrats on meeting some of your April goals and good luck in May! “Me Before you” is totally on my may goals because the trailer looked so amazing!

    • Thanks, Sierra! The trailer does look really good!

  • I think you have done great with your content this past month! I’m looking forward to seeing how you do this month.

  • I’m right there with you on the spring cleaning! It needs to happen! And I totally agree, eating out is definitely a domino effect for me too!

    • Good luck with your spring cleaning, Jenn! I don’t know where all this stuff that piles up comes from!

  • I’m right there with you on 1, 3 and 4! Good luck this month :)

  • Dia

You are not a broken record. I feel like I’ve started 90
% of my goal posts about how fast the month went by lol
I am also trying to eat out less, get more sleep and post on Instagram more. It will be the first time I’m actively posting at least once a day. I’m doing a challenge so I’m hoping that it will help. My plan is to do them at different times of the day and with different hashtags to grow engagement.

    • Dia

Also meant to say Good luck with your May goals!

    • I think we all do, haha. But it really is insane how fast the time is flying! Good luck with your goals this month too, Dia! I’m hoping to join in on the June Instagram challenges!

  • Leslie Nichole

Good luck with your goals! I’m doing a no spend May, so far so good. Then again we are only 2 days in. I’m only paying bills this month, it’s depressing and seems dull but I’ve got a few good books and blogs to read.

    • Thanks, Leslie! You have to start somewhere, so 2 days no-spend is a great start! Bills are no fun, but at least if you’re able to get them paid off you can spend money on exciting things next month (hopefully)!

  • These are great goals. Best of luck to you. Writing them down and making actionable steps to begin them gets you half way there.

    • Thanks, Morgan! That’s exactly why I write them down. I need to hold myself accountable for all the things!

  • Great goals! Eating out less is definitely cheaper and healthier. It’s amazing how much you can save over time :)

    • I’m already noticing a huge difference from just one week! But it could also be because the last few weeks have included a lot of eating out, haha. Totally agree with you though!

  • I’m with you on the eating out…if I start eating out during the week it snowballs into me eating out and not getting groceries all week! And I’m making all my friends read Me Before You so they can go see it with me next month, do itttt! :)

    • That’s exactly what happens with me too, it’s crazy! I need to exercise some serious self-control with that domino effect :) And I just started it! I need to keep the momentum going!

  • Reading Me Before You is on my goal list this month, too! And I totally agree, cutting back on blog posts allows me to create higher quality posts and it relieves some stress! Good luck this month!

    • I hope you’re able to read it before the movie! Have you started? We should try to hold each other accountable for getting through it, haha.

  • Tracy

I too need to be consistent about posting on Instagram. Thank you for the jumpstart!

  • Completely the same about the eating out! That’s something I try to work on too. Good luck with your goals this month!

    • Thanks, Caitlin! If only the food at restaurants didn’t taste so good… then maybe I’d be tempted to eat at home more :)

  • Candy Kage

Go get some sleep girl, you will have more energy to do all that spring cleaning.

  • Ashley Stephenson

I am the same way with eating out – if I eat out multiple times early in the week I just give up on cooking that week and continue to eat out. But usually we do pretty well and only eat out on Friday or Saturday – it helps we like to be in bed by like 8pm.

    • In bed by 8?! How do you do it?! I’m lucky if I get into bed before 11! Haha

  • Great goals! We actually eat in on weekdays and on weekends is like our break and we like to head out to eat if we don’t have leftovers.

    • That’s a great way to do it! I’m thinking I’ll give myself one weekday treat and one weekend. Hopefully that’ll balance it out!

  • Good luck! And have a tissue box ready when you read Me Before You!

    • Thanks! And ugh, I keep hearing that. I’m going to need a light read after this one, for sure!

  • It’s on my list to read Me Before You too. I’m dying to see the movie, but I want to read the book before it comes out.

    • Same! I’m going to try to resist the urge to not see the movie before I finish the book!

  • I need to clean up some old blog posts as well!!! That is absolutely my to do list as well.

    • Good luck with it, Amanda! It’s been on my to-do list forever. We need more hours in the day!

  • I have some major cleaning up to do on past posts too…I’ve been blogging for over 5 years so it just feels so overwhelming to go back into those archives! haha

    • My thoughts exactly! I’m at just under 5 years so I’m totally with you, Katie. I think it’ll definitely be a pick and choose thing!

  • Me Before You is so good! I can’t wait for the movie!

    • I keep hearing that! I’m just not sure I’m quite ready for the tears that I know will be flowing soon, haha.

  • I’m working on cleaning up old posts as well! I think it really helps to do so and then share them again. We’re trying to dine out less as well but we’ve already gone twice since Friday so it’s not looking good. haha

    • Thats what I’m hoping to do too! Hopefully your eating out for the month dwindles going forward :) Good luck, Marette!

  • Me Before You looks so good! I’m really looking forward to the movie… Maybe I should pick up the book too? You goals for this month all look really attainable, and it seems like we share really similar goals, too! Which reminds me… I should probably take an aim at tackling some of them…

    Jasmine / http://www.jasminekeclipse.com

    • It does! You should try to read it too – mini-book club?! Good luck with your goals this month too!

  • Fantastic goals!! Totally want to read Me before you… and will most likely cry my heart out while doing it. I also cried while reading PS. I love you – which was mostly due to actual laughter. That book was so funny… oddly enough.

Spring cleaning and purging clothing is a must in this house! Ugh… not looking forward to it.

Great job meeting most of your goals!! Love Instagram but I have such a hard time keeping up with it. Cheers!

Hope that this month will go by even better.

    • Thank you! I’ve been hearing a lot of crying happens in the book so I’ve been hesitant to continue but I’m going to! I feel like the cleaning and purging is always an ongoing thing but at the same time, the first thing I’ll push back on my list of to-dos, haha. Good luck with your goals too!

  • It sounds like you did a decent job at completing your goals last month, and you have some good ones for May! I hope that you get the chance to finish reading Me Before You because I’ve heard so many great things about it! I totally hear you on having to go back and clean up old posts! They’re just so time consuming sometimes, but totally necessary!

    • Thanks, Ashley! I’m really hoping to too. I’m going to try to make a deal with myself to not see it before I finish the book!

  • Always love reading other people’s goals! I definitely need to do a clothing purge as well, good luck!

    • Thanks, Sami! Good luck with your clothing purge too :)

  • You did fantastic in April, and I think you’re going to totally rock May as well!

    • Thanks, Angie! It’s another busy month for me, so I hope so! Thanks for reading :)

  • i hope you like me before you! and i need to eat out less as well, it is definitely a domino effect for us as well.. not good.

    • Thanks! I’ve heard to keep tissues handy from so many people. Not ready for the emotions! Good luck with not eating out as much, it’s such a tough thing!

  • Clothing purge and reading me before you are on my list too. Good luck with the goals!

    • The clothing purge seems to be a never ending one, haha. Good luck to you as well :)

  • Great goals for the month of May. My month has gotten off to a bit of a rough start so I’m sure I will spend the month catching up. I’m hoping to also get some spring cleaning done!

    • Thanks, Roxy! I hope the month gets better for you! Good luck with your spring cleaning!

  • I want to read Me Before You as well! Good luck with your goals this month, lady :)

    xoxo, Jenny

    • I’ve heard such great things about it! We should start a mini-book club to hold ourselves accountable with the reading, haha.

  • ME BEFORE YOU IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE YOU HAVE NO IDEA!
Aha. I can’t wait for the movie, I absolutely loved the book. :)

I need to work on fixing up some old posts too. I’ve been meaning to for the longest time. Ugh.
Good luck with all you have set out to achieve! :)

    Christie’s Take on Life. x

    • So glad to hear that! It makes me more excited to read the book (and of course see the movie). Fixing old posts has been a cloud hovering over me as well. Hopefully we’ll both make some progress this month :) Thanks for reading, Christie!

  • Great goals. I have definitely been working on a better blogging strategy too!

    • Thanks for stopping by, Lindsey :) Good luck with developing your strategy!

  • Denay DeGuzman

You have a set of awesome goals! I hope you achieve your goal of getting more sleep because you deserve it – and it will keep you healthy and happy. Eating out less is a big goal of mine too. I’ve also been working on a better blog and social media strategy, as my one-year blog anniversary is coming up next month. :-)

    • Thanks, girl! Good luck with your goals as well and congrats on the almost blogiversary!

  • Best of luck with all your goals this month!

  • Maya Kohn

I like this idea of posting monthly goals… I feel like by writing it down you can’t forget… or at least you are held a bit more accountable!

  • Read one book….I failed with you this past month! I feel like that’s my goal every month and I never accomplish it!!! I would love to do this for June, and I think it will actually happen because I’ll have the month off from school.

    • Same! Having some time off from a major commitment/school will definitely free up some time for you. I hope you’re able to cross it off the list! Which book are you thinking you’ll read?

  • I have some similar goals-I want to purge some of my clothing as well and stop eating out as much! Eating out kills our savings, I would love to put that money to other things!

    The Southern Stylista

    • It definitely does! Not eating out for 2 meals is at least $20 so it adds up very quickly. Good luck with your goals!
