Life Lately: Settling In

Thank you all for your kind words + congrats on my announcement of buying a house! To say it’s all been a whirlwind is an understatement, but nonetheless, very exciting! I’ve hated being away from the blog so much, but all of the house stuff ended up being much crazier than I anticipated! So here’s a little glimpse at what life has been like lately.

(Still Getting) Settled Into the House

I’ve been busy getting settled in, unpacking boxes (only a few boxes of clothes/shoes left to deal with), and assembling + re-assembling lots of furniture. Thank you to all the people who’ve helped me with it! Not to mention I’ve also been doing quite a bit of online shopping for house things!

It’s been hard since I’m eager to have everything set up and perfect, but I’m trying to pace myself with all of the home projects and decorating. After all, a home isn’t built in a day! A couple things that are on the wish list that I’m eager to get set up? Trying out a mattress-in-a-box and getting my house set up to be a “smart house” – and no, not like the Disney movie!

Bought a New Computer

Normally this would be an exciting thing, but after a year and almost 3 months, my MacBook Air decided to go caput on me. Something in the logic board fried and after bringing my computer into the store, was told it would cost around $500 to repair. I about fell out of the chair when they told me this (which was after they had already typed up everything in the system and were getting ready to mail it in for repair). Normally I buy the extended warranty but since I’ve been a proud Apple owner for about a decade now and haven’t had any issues, I opted to skip it this time around. Murphy’s Law, right? Ugh. I ended up sitting on the info for a couple days and ultimately decided to purchase a new laptop. But this time around I’m making sure to get that warranty!

Reading Books

The past couple years I’ve been struggling with finding the time for reading. And that includes choosing a Netflix binge over a book. But I think I’m actually getting back on a steady roll with it this year! I’ve already read Rainbow Rowell’s Landline and Liane Moritary’s Big Little Lies (I can finally watch the HBO show – yay!), and I’ve read a good chunk of A Hundred Summers, which I’m 100% glued to. And speaking of books, my sisters arranged a couple of my bookshelves with rainbow color coding. I’m obsessed with this look.

Dealing with a Cold/Sinus Thing.. Ugh

I’ve done such a great job avoiding being sick throughout most of cold and flu season, but it finally caught up with me this week. I never know whether it’s a cold or sinus thing (both have similar symptoms), but despite my best attempts to nip it early on, I’ve gone from sore throat to feeling ok, to a little nose congestion, to the cough, and now here I am as we roll into the weekend… with no voice. I’m living on soup, tea, and Emergen-C!

Nothing better than curling up with soup and a good book.

So that’s the latest with me. Nothing too exciting, just busy busy! Tell me, what’s new with you?!

Thanks, Marette! I’m loving having all this space to work with!

I hope you really enjoy your new home. I’m trying to read more fiction this year. I read loads of non fiction but there’s nothing like the magic of a good story. I decided to make this much more of a priority this year and I’m loving it. xx

Thank you, Wendy! Any good reads recently that you can recommend?

I hope you’re feeling better soon! I had a cold/sinus thing and it hasn’t been any fun. That soup looks delicious!

Thanks, Crystal! Just a bit of a lingering cough but MUCH better than before! Cold/Sinus stuff is the worst!

Oh that bookshelf looks awesome! :) I haven’t heard of the book you’re reading, but I should probably check it out if it’s that good! Also, I loved Little Big Lies! and they’re doing a pretty good job with the show so far :)
    Congrats on your new house!

    • April 6, 2017 / 1:47 PM

Thanks, Malissa! The book was great – I definitely recommend it!

  4. March 25, 2017 / 2:01 PM

I totally organize my bookshelf by color as well!!!

    • April 6, 2017 / 9:07 AM

It makes it so much more exciting, doesn’t it?!

  5. March 25, 2017 / 4:41 PM

Hope you get better soon and congrats on the new laptop and hopefully you are able to fully get settled into your new home!

    • April 6, 2017 / 5:33 PM

Thanks, Silvia! I’m mostly settled in, just a few of those leftover boxes of clothing I’ve been putting off unpacking :)

  6. March 25, 2017 / 5:14 PM

That soup looks delish!! I’m always looking for great wonton!! Exciting to hear that you are settling into the house… I definitely understand about having to realize it takes time to get settled in and decorate! Still working on it, lol!

    • April 8, 2017 / 9:54 PM

It was! Wonton soup is the best! I’m starting to realize it’s going to be an ongoing process, haha. But eventually I’ll need to get to unpacking these last few boxes of clothes I’ve been avoiding!

  7. March 25, 2017 / 8:53 PM

Yay books! I just did a display at my library that was a “rainbow display” and I had a bunch of books organized by color. It was fun!

    • April 6, 2017 / 10:45 PM

So fun! I used to have them by size but rainbow displays are way more exciting!

  8. March 26, 2017 / 12:01 PM

Congrats on getting settled in! I have a cold also and it’s forced me to be more relaxed this weekend instead of doing my usual running around – it’s kinda nice!

    • April 8, 2017 / 9:55 PM

Thank you! I know what you mean. It’s sad that we have to get sick to force ourselves to sit back and take a break, haha. I hope you’re feeling better!

  9. March 26, 2017 / 9:39 PM

You sure have been busy! That’s great that you are getting settled in! And exciting news about the new laptop!

    • April 8, 2017 / 9:59 PM

Yes! It’s nice to finally have a weekend to take a breather :)

  10. March 27, 2017 / 1:21 PM

oh a hundred summers <3 loved that book! that sucks about your laptop, murphy's law indeed. but yay for a pretty new one!

    • April 8, 2017 / 9:53 PM

SO good! I need to check out more from that author. And ugh, the laptop. You’re right though – I’m loving how pretty this one is and am always down for new tech gadgets!

  11. March 27, 2017 / 3:47 PM

Your bookshelf looks lovely! I’ve wanted to read One Hundred Summers ever since I saw it on Lauren Conrad’s website a couple of years ago but I have yet to get to it. Big Little Lies is up there for me too! I’ve heard the book is much better than the show so I’m looking forward to diving into it! And I can commiserate over the laptop. Mine has been on the way out for about a month but I’m not caving in and getting a new one until it’s 100% unusable.

    • April 8, 2017 / 9:59 PM

Thank you! You definitely need to read it soon! I did like the book a lot better than the show, but I feel like that’s what happens most of the time! New laptops are SO expensive, but it’s nice when it’s new and running fast! I hope you won’t have to shell out for a new one anytime soon!

  12. March 29, 2017 / 9:16 PM

Congrats again on buying a house! Your new MacBook is GORGEOUS!

Thanks, Katie! I hope Apple doesn’t come out with any more rose gold things. My rose gold tech collection is growing rapidly, haha.
